Tablets are already ahead. Well, almost.

Proof? Surface Pro 3. Of course, it's really a laptop in a tablet's body, but it's a tablet nonetheless.

As for why we get crap for graphics on games made for tablets, it's a simple matter of keeping development costs low.

the i7 is a strong CPU, but the Surface Pro 3 has no discrete GPU, that's why it's graphical processing capabilities are waay below current gen consoles

the HD5000 included in the CPU can't even compete with PS360 GPUs

Even the Surface Pro 2 ran Skyrim in PS360-resolution (1280x720) with ~50 fps while the PS3 had problems to reach 30 fps:

And the Surface Pro 3 with i7 is probably a lot faster.

on low settings - on PS3 you can't set the settings lower to get higher fps

on medium it drops below 20 in that video

and the CPU is much stronger, the GPU is weak though

It drop below 20 fps in 1920x1080. The PS3 version drops also in the low 20s in 1280x720.

Tablets are getting as powerful as 7th gen consoles, but at a much higher price.

Actually the HD 5000 graphics are roughly on par with last gen.

IGN has gotten a lot better recently I have found.  There was a period during which I didn't trust them though from like 2010-2012.

You just don't want that they close the gap, first of all 5-6 years ago people had problems with running games like Final Fantasy or Chrono trigger and those were NES/SNES games, today you have games that almost reach last gen quality and I would consider that closing gap. I also want to remind you it is not just the new phones/tablets that it works on, it even works on the Iphone 5 and that thing is around 2 years old.. Iphone 6 probably will get announced in less than two weeks and it could potentially play last gen games quality wise...

I would say they are light years behind in controls. I don't know HOW they're ever going to expect core gamers to swallow touching nothing but glass to control games. I mean, for flappy birds, sure, but a full on FPS? Good luck with that. lol

Afraid you will lose an online FPS to a ten year old on a smartphone? It is bound to happen.

As if there are any 10 year olds playing FPS on an iPhone. lol
