Forums - Gaming - Have Single player games be come a thing of the past?

I'm perfectly OK with multiplayer in video games ( heck, I love the multiplayer modes in some games like Mario Kart and Left 4 Dead 2 for example), but I'll always prefer the singleplayer mode!

I agree with you 100%. Why do games such as Uncharted 3 and The last of us require online play. For me that just diminishes the perfection which these games have somewhat achieved. I think that Online play should just be reserved for fps and I wouldn't be sad for one bit if these went online only since the single player of these games usually suck ( All Cod's ).

Thanks for all the input and different views good people! Good to know I am not alone in not wanting the SP experience to disappear or be "incomplete" just for the sake of MP. It is nice to have a good balanced combination of both! But for me a nice rewarding SP game will always take the top.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

Honestly, if you look at the last 2 years of last gen and the indie surge currently going on, I actually feel like SP games are making somewhat of a comeback.  Agreed though I greatly prefer SP.  Once in awhile I get totally hooked on an MP game but I play far far less than SP.  Last MP I could not stop playing was Battlefield Bad Company 2, but I play several SP games every month.

I abhor competitive MP. Play mostly SP. I hate repetitiviness, the same maps and same tatics (the only genre I like and is repetitive is racing and some fighting). To me MP is wasted time... You play 6 months and if you try to remember what you done is always the same thing.
I like some co-op with friends and lan competition from time to time. But am really happy playing SP and/or watching (taking turns) and chatting while at that.

And about SP games being too easy nowadays it aint because of AI or recovering healthy it is check point... How many of you can pick a modern SP (let's say UC2) and play on hard from beggining to end without a single death? (no cheats allowed) GoW? TLOU? SM3DW? I bet almost none, so stop complaining about the easyness and everytime you die go there and start new game. I'm quite certain I wouldn't finish most of my games.
Extra hard games on NES took 20min on speedrun, 2h in normal run but you would take more than 2 weeks to beat it for the first time.
I actually get quite annoyed doing the same thing 100 times over and over. In a 10h game that even speeding take 4h would be almost unbeatable in a system without checkpoints. How many games would you buy if you took 1y to finish not 1w?

I barely play multiplayer to be honest. I like good stories and a good atmosphere, all of this I can get in the single player. I would actually never buy a game like Titanfall in which I wouldn't have a single player at all. I have played the beta and it was fun but it wouldn't motivate me enough to play it for several weeks.

Destiny will be the first game that i'm going to play online, since COD 4: Modern Warfare. I usually get bored with most online aspects of games, and greatly prefer a nice long and moving story, single player mode.
