Forums - Gaming - Have Single player games be come a thing of the past?

I don't like this narrow viewpoint where games need to have multiplayer in order to be an acceptable game. If a game is released without online, it gets doubt from gamers and certain reviewers. They will deem it as "boring" and a game with "little replay value" and will detract point from the overall game. If there's a game with a rushed and tacked on multiplayer, gamers and reviewers will cry foul because the online "had so much potential" or "seemed rushed" and will detract points from the overall game. They want to push multiplayer on every game out there nowadays, and not every game needs it.

I agree 100%

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

Absolutely not. By and large, I am most inclined to buy single-player-only games.

The day we lose those is the day game design loses all artistic merit.

I hope not, I've always been more of a fan of single player modes.

I have the feeling that developers don't have the urge to add a competitive multiplayer part in the game. I was glad when they announced that Bioshock won't have it anymore and more games are coming without a competitive MP. Assassin's Creed Unity, Dragon Age and the Order all in favor for the SP experience. However implementing a co-op element is fine for me.

A.I. in games needs a big improvement before SP is back in the spot light. CPU enemies are to easy and predictable once you have figured the mechanics out.

Co-op with the kids is fun, but at night I play single player games. And online

I'll take a great single player experience over any online game on any system in any era of gaming.

All the best games are that because of the single-player.

To me, multiplayer adds little, if any, value. A single-player experience just has way more depth, has more complicated gameplay and has a story to play. There also aren't any humans players to screw things up. There's just a tiny handful of games I play the multiplayer mode of, and even those I only play sporadically. Not even over the internet, just local with a friend, usually strategic or city-builder type games. I only went online with my PS3 like... Once. A couple times on Wii and 3DS for Mario Kart, but not much more. I don't care if a multiplayer mode is there or not, if the base game is good (like in Uncharted). Playing an MMO would be my gaming hell.

I really hope all that 'connected' and 'social' talk will blow over sooner rather than later. Luckily there's still more than enough single-player focused games out there, so it's not dead by any means.

I actually wouldn't buy a racing game without MP anymore.. I still would buy a FPS like Bioshock but a racing game? Nope.. Can't see myself racing against the computer..

Do those games exist?

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

Single player > multiplayer.

I don't even touch multiplayer in the majority of my games.
