Project Morpheus is still just a project with no release date its more of a research thing basically what Oculus does with their Development Kits. The Hardware is definetly not finalized yet. Developers first have to learn to program experiences for VR. I dont think Sony will throw it on the market anytime soon. I think VR is still 2-3 years away from being a massmarketable.

The Virtual Boy wasnt VR it just had Virtual in its name to make people believe it has something to do with Virtual Reality.

Have fun together in short. Must be really fun to do that with VR google/whatever device on the head... |
I imagine it'd be just as fun, if not more. Everyone brings round their VR headsets instead of multiple monitors/TVs and play the same game but with a greater level of immersion. And then you'll always be able to take off your goggles and shake some of your friends to scare the shit out of them from time to time.
For those not playing, you can also have an overview on your main TV. So actually, far more fun than just individual TVs.
Hopefully, Morpheus or OR will get it right. I have been dreaming about VR ever since i started gaming. My body is sooooo ready.

Okay thanks!
So if it is that far off, I wonder if it will be a method that will boost the PS4's life to the 10 years that some have predicted?
The console will have been on the market for roughly 3-4 years. I would say the PS4 most likely would be around for 6 years otherwise (before the next iteration). The Oculus could definitely expand its life as this does appear to be a major add-on. It almost makes it into an entirely new console.

I'll reserve judgment until we see it in person, but quite honestly I can't imagine it working out well for more than a handful of games.

lolno sony

Racing and any other simulation games will be awesome in VR. FPS and RPGs need some rethinking in parts but will be extremely immersive.
I'm only a bit afraid it's still too early. 60fps is kinda low for VR where any lag or inaccuracy in head movement updates will cause motion sickness. And spreading the view out to 90 degrees horizontal at 1080p is like going back to 360p gaming.
It will be a major step in the future. Morpheus will be a small first step.

Everybody who hasnt tried it yet should atleast wait for a Consumer Device and try it when a friend has it and THEN form an opinion. It might be not for everybody but without trying it its hard to explain the gigantic difference it makes to use a proper setup VR Headset. And it doesnt matter if its first or third person. Third Person feels like hovering 2-3 meters above the ground and mindcontrolling someone on the ground. I am not saying it will replace the normal way of gaming but it will add a whole new dimension nobody knew before and create a new way for people to spend their freetime. Playing Half Life 2 with the DK2 is an experience that is like taking a trip to an alternate dimension.. And the DK2 is still far away from what the Consumer Version will offer. And its already amazing. |
I completely agree with you. I've only tried the first Dev Kit but even then I was blown away, and the consumer versions of OR and PM will have even more improvements over the dev kits.
People really need to try these bits of equipment before making arguments from positions of ignorance.
