Gamestop has to play friendly with the only console maker not committed to ending the used game market!

Xbox still has DRM ambitions.
Sony wants PSNow to replace the used game market.

How so?

So this means the margin profits will be huge. I myself thought about 1000% for each (retailer and Nintendo):
Miboo cost: 1 dollar.
Nintendo margin: 10 dollars
Retailer margin: 10 dollars.
Taxes: 5 dollars.
End price: 26 dollars.

That means huge profit indeed, even with low sales. Like, with 2 million adopters buying an average of 5 figurines, this would mean 100 million profit for each set, with no costs attached (meaning, developing, since it is not a game).

$5 in taxes?   Just how bad is it in Brazil?    On a $21 dollar item in the US, taxes would be about $1.50-1.80 (depending on the state you live in).

Amiibo could be the driving force to put the Wii U into big sales.  If Dinsey Infinity and Skylanders can get as big as they did, Nintendo has it made.

I agree, this will be so huge that I think Sony will do a similar line of figurines right after it, with Drake, Helgast, Kat and the whole gang...

Here in Brazil taxes can get to 80% in some products. It does change from product to product, like, beer has 40% taxes, some washing machines have 12% and so on... It is a big mess.

Specilly in toys, the taxes are pretty big(this is why videogames are expensive here, too, because the gov classify then as toys instead of software).

Look:

Source: Folha de São Paulo

As you can see, there is more tax incident on videogames than in fire weapons(armas de fogo). We lose only for cigarrettes.

How crazy is that? If I buy a Niko Move Gun for shooters I will pay more taxes than I would if I buy a real gun!

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I'll be getting some, mainly of my favorite characters, and I think it'll definitely be profitable for Nintendo. But unless they make a game that revolves around amiibo I don't see it becoming a huge hit that causes the Wii U to take off.

Right now we don't have a lot of info on future plans for amiibo so it's hard to tell what might happen.

i don´t know why people are so ecited about overpriced dlc in form of toys, but i guess nitendo can do what they want and people will defend them

Hmm.. I do wonder how successful Amiibos could be and if they will actually help the WiiU!

People have made some interesting points from cynical to optimistic. I am with you. It will be interesting. Nintendo rarely is inexpensive, but they have to keep them less than $10 each. If they do, I think like you...hmm, I wonder too.

I don't really like this amiibo business. Can someone clarify if I'm wrong but it unlocks parts of games with figurines? So basically parts of my games will be behind a pay wall? Then again I neve rocked Skylanders

Nothing unlocks, the amiibo's don't lock out content from the game and are entirely tertiary to the whole thing.

Its a data storage device and customizer. Think of it as a cool looking, customizable usb stick.

Tbh I dont even really know what Amiibo is to this day and I am a person that owns a NES and the original Gameboy and WiiU and 3DS and everything inbetween.

Optional stuff always fails. Skylanders made figurines a requirement because the games were bundle with them and thus it explained itself.  How will anyone that is not so "educated" when it comes to games know what the hell this stuff is?

Of course it's a gonna sell lots of figurines, I know people who don't even a have a Wii U who will buy it.

Yes, amiibos wil be really big. Like how people buy an anime firgurine for hundreds of dollars.

Pocky Lover Boy!

I guess it could, but here in thw Philippines, I can't find anyone stocking for it. :'( :'(
