Thing is they do provide that stuff as multimedia is the same quality on both consoles (and has been since mid-7th gen) they just don't emphasize it in the press as much.  I find it funny how MS people (fans and employees) are always pushing their innovation about "taking over the living room" when Sony is the one that introduced the multimedia console with the PS1 in 1994 with its CD playback then expanded on it with PS2 and DVD.  PS3 had bluray exclusively for a full gen and matched 360 app for app yet Xbox is veiwed as the multimedia console because they talk about it more and have a camera which you can select them with (which takes just as long as using a controller and is matched in its most useful aspects by the $60 PSeye)

It's pretty damn funny actually. I think it just goes to show how monumentally MS fucked up this gen. PS4 does not have the best exclusives right now, far from it (although next year looks good) but when you main competition shoots themselves in the foot before the race even begins, it becomes all too easy.

I think its the extended long last gen which made a lot of people wanting a new console ASAP no matter what games it had.

Last gen Sony finished strong. This gen Nintendo fucked up, Microsoft pissed people off with their DRM and Sony promised like 18 or so exclusives it had more TFLOPS lol.

So when the consoles launched people went for PS4.
