Forums - Microsoft - Xbox boss Phil Spencer says Tomb Raider Xbox Exclusivity Is A Win/Win, Not An Attack On PlayStation Players

And that's the exact point Phil loses every drop of credibility as a pro gamer ceo he strived to build ever since he took over: he goes on about MS's relationship with SE on and on and on...

Guess what Phil, there is another relationship that comes first: that of the gamers who BOUGHT the damn thing and made the reboot the success it was and the makers of the game.

Phil is a very nice guy, MS fans be mad at me but he really deserves more than X division!

Why? He is the head of the division, and has almost complete control in where the Xbox division is headed.

It's the perfect place for him.

That was an honest interview--at least, as honest as you're going to get about business deals. You can't reveal contractual terms unless both parties agree to it.

As I've said before, if someone isn't using clear language then there is probably a good reason why.

I don't like the Tomb Raider deal. I really don't. However, I blame Square rather than Microsoft. Microsoft is responsible for Xbox, Square is responsible for Tomb Raider.

I agree as well. Is CD in some type of financial bind that they've been shopping for publishers or such? Why would this game be up for exclusivity in the first place? Well either way, it's unknown if it comes to PS if it will sell well due to backlash for making it exclusive or the quality of the game itself. I hope it's a great game.

Exactly:

On Square's part it was a lousy business decision. On Phil's part it was a bad gamer decision because he assumed that his money is above the gamers' money.

So it is a 360 game too..... Why would people get the game on Xbox one then

mM

Spencer is as bad as the rest of MS, what has he done for Ms first party in 8 years? Shut down and mismanaged studios, why can't they make there own action adventure??? because they will not invets long term in gaming like sony has with first party studios worth a salt.

What if the time exclusive part is for TR to be released on PC later but not on PS4? Look at Dead Rising 3 and Ryse, they were exclusive to the X1 but then released later on PC.

Well, I'm glad the whole thing has been cleared: RoTR will be coming to PS4 in Spring 2016.

This is how you communicate with the gamers! I still prefer that they create their own IPs but they are releasing alot of them and this is just a bonus in my view :).

How is this a bonus to you? Honest question. I'm just curious since the deal doesn't add a game to the XB lineup. It merely removes it elsewhere.

I feel this is a dangerous and anti consumer practice. It's bad enough that Sony has a bunch of exclusive destiny stuff, timed dlc already sucks.

Bying timed exclusivity has been going on since the NES era, not really a new practice :).

Well, it does indeed add something. It adds a competitive element to the X1 that PS4 will not have, even though it is a timed exclusivity deal.  I think what Phil is getting at is that MS can then market X1 as the only place with both an exclusive FPS in Halo 5 AND and exclusive TPS in TR next fall. Perception is everything.
