Forums - Gaming - Calling it now. If the amiibo is successful, big name developers will make content for the Wii U

http://plebegaming.wordpress.com/2014/08/11/if-the-amiibo-is-successful-expect-more-third-party-content-on-wii-u/

TL;DR

Skylanders sold over 100 million figures in about 16 months.

Skylanders figure attach rates were beyond Activision's wildest expectations.

72 million children are interested in smart toys, amiibo chief among them.

Nintendo is willing to work with third parties on amiibo content.

With all of that information it looks like the amiibo is a hell of a tool for Nintendo. Provided the amiibo does well, even half as well as Skylanders, I bet that at very least the big Japanese games devs return. It's no secret collectables are big sellers in Japan, and Nintendo claims they can make amiibos as big or small as they want. Just imagine how well a line of Square-Enix key chain sized amiibo would sell in Japan. Say what you want about the decline of Japanese devs, but SE, Capcom, Konami, and Sega have some iconic mascots/characters that would sell amiibo even if they weren't capable of being used with the Wii U.

Chocobos, Moogles, Black Mages, Magitek, Street Fighters, Megaman, Dark Stalkers, Felynes, any MH bosses, Phoenix Wright, Sonic, Shinobi, Hatsune Miku,  Snake, Rex, Ray, Cyborg Raiden, ZoE, Gradius, Belmonts, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.

Bonus, with high attach rates for smart toys, even though third party games sell relatively poorly on Nintendo consoles, they could still be disproportionately profitable.

I ain't even mad... Activision made 3bil on those Skylander figures last year. Proves that COD isn't their only cash cow.

Amiibo will be successful? Sure but third party coming back? Nahh

No. Nintendo can get some 3rd party support in their next console (if they do everything right). But on Wii U? No

I honestly think amiibo would do better if they made a full game based on it, and ALSO include the things for smash and others frachises.

I don't see amiibo's being that big of a success, to be honest. It basically just produces a bot, which you can't control, that you can use on other wii u's... sounds like it would get boring real quick...

maybe they would be successful if nintendo used them as a way of pushing dlc characters into smash/other games... but since they have said it is just bots, it pretty much ruined any potential amiibo had...

I really hope it will be a big success, Nintendo and the WiiU deserve a break, but personally I'm not sure I'm seeing the purpose yet. I agree that they should make a game solely based on amiibo's (if they aren't already). A Pokémon collect-them-all-amiibo game is an obvious perfect fit and a sure money printer. Why isn't that here already!

This.

Seriously the Skylanderd figures are successful because they have a specific game to go along with them, a game that is specifically aimed to be used with the figures.

As far as I know Amiibo doesn't have that, the only use that I know about for now is that in SSB, which I quite frankly find pretty pointless, you can't even play the Amiibo characters in the game.

I have doubts about Amiibos success.

not only are they not based around one game, but supposedly they will not have full functionality if you aren't using the correct amiibo on the game.  For example, if you use a smash mario on mario kart 8, it will work, but it won't have all the functions that the mario kart 8 amiibo will have....

Wait wat? The amiibos will be used for multiple games and its launching alongside SSB. Give it time, Nintendo hasnt stated how amiibos will function yet. Let SSB be the opening gates.

And wat do you mean by "you can't even play the Amiibo characters in the game"? Dont kno exactly wat this comment meant but all amiibos are playable characters in SSB. Lastly Amiibos isnt pointless in SSB. The same thing should be done with pokemon but  to a different extent :)
