who cares? How does this effect your life? in the grand scheme of things, this really doesn't matter.

Same could be said for your recent topic. Next time try to participate in the discussion in a positive way. That being said, it matters to us (the ones visoting a sales website should you have missed it)

Why do people nowadays keep calling GameCube "GCN" instead of GC? Is it called "GameCube Nintendo" instead of Nintendo GameCube in the US? Or is the N some other kind of dev code thing, kind of like the X in PSX?

If it was going to outsell/match the GameCube, both Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 should've provided much larger boosts. The 3DS started to sell at a reasonably high level after Mario 3D Land and MK7, the Wii U is no where near as close to those levels.

It's still selling under the GameCube even for the equivalent months of June/July (2003 vs 2014), even though the GameCube had no notable releases during this time. That means the gap between the GameCube and Wii U has *grown* larger even despite MK8 and 3D World.

Doubling the baseline when your baseline was crap to begin with isn't really impressive.

Nintendo doesn't have many big franchises left. They have Smash Brothers, which also is going to have to compete with the 3DS version and basically they've spent their bigger gun IP.

A more cartoonish style Zelda is not going to move hardware.

To be fair 3DS also recieved a major price cut shortly before those games released, $80 or about 1/3 its original price. On the other hand Wii U has yet to recieve a true price cut, what they did last year was more like adding value to bundles.

Wii U at launch vs Wii U now

8gb/no game-$299 vs 32gb/Mario+Luigi U-$299

32gb/Nintendo Land-$349 vs 32gb/Mario Kart+Remote/Wheel-$329

Basically they Increased the value while cutting $20 off the higher priced sku, or about 5% the original price. On top of the Wii U is still twice the price of Gamecube in the same time frame, starting next month it will be triple the price of Gamecube if Wii U does not recieve a price cut.

Gamecube peaked in its second full year but I think if things go right (a BIG if) Wii U will peak in its third year, 2015. Its baseline in the early months of the year could be up due to Mario Kart/Smash Bros and potentially Amiibo success. Also there are rumors that Nintendo is planning an exclusive each month next year, which probably wont happen but I do believe they can pump out 2 per quarter which can help sales remain steady into the middle part of the year. Finally I think a major price cut will happen in the later part of next year, hopefully to $199 in Sept.

I know alot of Nintendo fans get mocked with the chalkboard and constantly saying "wait for blank" but I firmly believe we cant truly compare Wii U vs Gamecube until next year. Right now im 50/50 on whether Wii U will pass GC, it just depends on how Nintendo executes there strategy next year, if they once again delay games and have long droughts and dont reduce its price then it wont pass it but if they fix those problems then I think it has a fighting chance.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

It really depends on future support from Nintendo, the next Nintendo console's unveil, and the hardware price point. You never really know what could happen to make the Wii U more attractive in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th years. It may not be traditional gaming software.

It's the shortcut Nintendo refers to. For instance, in Mario Kart retro tracks, Baby Park gets referred to as "GCN Baby Park."

500k+ more Wii Us in Japan for the rest of the year!

Never.

The Wii U won't be selling in 2016. Zelda will be its swan song, not a system seller.

The only way I see myself eating those words if they somehow manage to tap into casual market in 2015 with a 199 price tag, Mario Kart and a ton of family orientated games which utilise the gamepad and wii mote.

Zelda U? Swan song? Yeah, sure!

Yeah, I doubt this, too. You're saying that Zelda will be the swansong when Starfox won't be close to finished by that date?

Yeah, I think Zelda will be the last BIG game. I don't really think starfox will make a big splash, its very hard to guage the sort of revelance that franchise  still has today, let alone in 2016. I know it has a very vocal audience on the internet where Nintendo fans are concerned, but that doesn't necessarily translate into sales. I think it will be heavily dependant on the gametype though, whether its on rails like 64, an action game confined to ships, on foot action adveture, a combination of the above ..

Bold Prediction February 2015. WiiU WILL DOMINATE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON. GUARANTEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It'll hit 15 million next year. 2017 or bust to pass GCN numbers.

The rumored one big game a month system for the Wii U will really help it next year.

I don't see how is gonna pass 15m by 2015. Hell I seriously agree with the people who thinks this is the peak year. Mario 3d, 8 and Smash out are more than enough to realise of that

I see the Wii U hitting 11 million by end-2014. I don't see how 4 million isn't a reasonable number.

That means wii u needs almost a 100% improvement from 2013. I can't see that either, even with price cut seems unlikely, but we'll find out

GameCube have sold little more than 14 million by February 2004... i think that is impossible. :/
