Polygon, needs to burn! 2.82mil (1month) vs there 1 year prediction of i believe was 1.30mil. After they look dumb, i remember them posting MK8 will still be the worse selling MK8 >_>

I mean... it still may be the worst selling Mario Kart. You never know.

The worst selling MK game, Super Circuit, sold ~ 5.5 million.... There is NO WAY IN HELL Mario Kart 8 won't be able to surprass that number by a lot!

no way? not so sure...

but yeah. it can surprass the 5.5m

but maybe mk8 will be se second worst selling mk game...

i dont think it can mange 7m+

but im so sad about the profits. no way this gets better before holidays

Mario Kart DD! for the GameCube sold around 7 million, so MK8 would be tied with that game for the second worst selling MK game if MK8 somehow stops at 7 million! I do think MK8 has high chances to sell more than 8 million LT!

Forecasts are a pipedream. 3DS isn't getting anywhere near 12m and if WiiU can only be u p 340k YOY this past Q (and last year was abysmal) then it's not going to be up much the following Q's.

So is it still 100% guarantee that X1 will outship WiiU this Quarter? Your so certain it will but we dont have numbers for X1 aside from being way less than 5.8mil and its sold through less than 5mil

Wii U and 3DS both become profitable and Nintendo still posts a loss...what else are they spending on?

People seem confused. Some points:

-Wii U is much improved due to MK8 and sales are up over 200%. If that carries forward for the year, the system should sell a solid 7 million or so. I would expect at least double last year in the end, but very possibly closer to triple if Nintendo takes aggressive steps such as a reduced price, ets.

-3DS is struggling relative to its previous success and especially when compared to the DS. The dedicated handheld market has taken a major blow from other mobile formats. 3DS is still a solid success on par with systems like XB360 or PS3, but not reaching the levels handhelds have enjoyed.

-Nintendo is lost money because it is a slow quarter for the games business. It doesn't matter if Wii U or 3DS turn a "profit per unit" if the overhead of running the company is greater than revenue. Game companies typically expect to lose for 3 quarters and turn the profit from the Christmas period. The goal here is to minimize losses.

-Nintendo definitely needs a new handheld product to engage young consumers. Be it a tablet, a phone or something even cooler than either of those, 3DS isn't quite cutting it.

Y'all seen this chalkboard?

Poor Nintendo, MK8 looks so fun and couldn't prevent the losses, the masses just dont know what a good game is

Well MK8 is still saving the Wii U....Wii U sales are actually competent...now what I want to know is what else is Nintendo spending this money on?

If SSB4U and the Amiibos doesnt do much for the WiiU, then Ill admit to the WiiU being a failure.

You can quote me on that one.

What is your definition of "do much"?   Like mk8 SSB WILL sell some software and hardware - no one would deny that - but how much wil it need to sell?

Perhaps some sort of R&D?  They might be working on new product design and spending money on that health thing that's on the horizon.

At least they are very transparant about their losses and profits unlike other consolemakers..
