HD DVD has been discontinued, and BluRay is supported by every major studio in the world.
Yeah, I was like "wow" when I first say a BD movie too. Even a friend of mine's grandmother was like "wow that's a clear picture" when she came to pick him up and we were watching a BD movie.

I watched a trailer for the film 'Hitman' in full 1080p. There is one particular scene where Agent 47 is taking a shower, the camera zooms slowly in on the barcode at the back of his neck, and you can litterally see the man's hair follicles! The visual quality is just astonishing.
But did it make the movie any better -- i.e. funnier, improve the story line, etc. That, alas, Bluray will never do.
Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.
