Forums - Microsoft - EA Announces Subscription Service On Xbox One: EA Access

I don't get it. How are they doing this?

Are they really going to let you basically get every FULL RETAIL EA game for only $30 a year?

I really hope this doesn't hurt other companies. You know people just buy this $30 a year and don't buy any other games then and thus many companies go under.

I'm still waiting for the day EA announces their own console. I don't care for EA, but I just have this gut feeling that they want to do their own console. It would be very interesting. It would be the only place to get madden, that alone would be pretty big.

They'd never risk all of that money. Plus consoles only have like 2 gens left. EA may partner with a streaming box company but they wouldn't make all of their games exclusives.

I thought XOne was so bad that developers and publisher are going to stop supporting it by the end of this year.

Should I still trust those VGChart forum dwelers?

Xbox one is bad for Gamers not for developers as a Gaming machine compared to PS4. Nobody said Xbox one won't have developers support in future and you might have confused the Wii U name with Xbox one.

There is always someone who takes the bait.  I guess this is why fish still take the bait because its so irrersistable.

That is *not* going to happen.

I hope people are not expecting them to just suddenly put on games like DragonAge for this $5 a month on release, it aint going to happen for new releases, it would be financial suicide.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Apparently the time to play a game varies depending on the game according to ea or ea support twitter

Sorry, but I dont see it. Getting 10% off games and DLC is not that good for downloadable games. Physical copies of EA games usually go down in price pretty quickly. Early access is great for people who cant wait I guess and I dont see how paying 90$ a year is great for playing old EA games.

It's $30 a year if you buy a 1 year sub

How are you going to stay online for the games if you dont have XBL?

Why would you need GOLD.  You do not need gold for Netflix, Hulu or any other subscription service any more so I doubt this will be different.  Yes, if you play online you will need GOLD but then again if you play online with any MP game you need gold just like you need PS+.

Basically this is a way for EA to have their own game subscription service and not have to eat from Sony lunch.  Why is this Xbox one only probably because Sony is selling a competing service with PS Now and when negotiations between Sony and EA happen, this was the result.

If EA is successful with this service this might be a really big problem for PS Now.  Other publishers may want to go down this rout as well which would mean those games would not come out on PS Now.  If PS Now is regulated to only Sony games, it still would not be a bad service but at its current pricing level it would not look good.  Also less content make the service not as inviting or a big sales plus.  Either way, its very interesting this is a exclusive service on the X1 but who knows how things went down during discussions.

Edit:  Hmmm, I wonder if this could also effect Steam as well.  Right now this is console only and Xbox at that but I highly doubt that will be the case in a few years.

Some truly tragic and embarrassing posts in here.

Stop kidding yourselves. This is a a very big deal.

Not only for the Xbox One now (other platforms will obviously follow) but for the gaming industry in general.

This is the start of a new chapter in gaming.

Chapter 11 maybe...

This is actually a great idea! EA still surprises me some times

                                                                                                               You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

My worry about stuff like this (and it's my same worry about ps+) is that multiple subscriptions is going to confuse the shut out of average gamers

"So I get access to all EA Games?"
"If you have a subscription"
"Oh okay I have an xbl subscription"
"No you need an EA subscription"
"Oh so I get an EA subscription instead of xbl?"
"No you need to subscribe to both"
"How do I get both?"
"You need to buy this EA card and activate it"
"I activate it on my xbox?"
"No you go to EA.com and sign in"
"I sign in with my xbl account?"
"No you sign in with your origin id"
"What's an origin id?"
"It's an account with EA that you link to xbl account"
"How do I link my account?"
"Please kill me"

You all know that's EXACTLY how it's going to go down.
