point being is its a digital only copy,  far short of leaving it installed forever and hoping your machine never breaks,  youre at the mercy of network functionality to have access to it.

What is a USB drive?

Absolutely pointless if your WiiU breaks down.

Also pointless if online servers for the console stop.

I should have just said this one word really, POINTLESS.

You will not lose your games if "the servers shut down". Nintendo could lose everything and go out of business, and your digital purchases will ALWAYS be there.

where are you getting this idea from?

You can always buy another console if you have physical copies though. Digital is all gone once a console dies and the servers are shut off

That's why I said given the recent patching. At this point, you can transfer the entire console catalog from one to another via USB because of the recent patch. So unless you console completely break down all of a sudden without any warning or you run it over with your car, you can get around the console imploding and the online services being offline.

Yes i can completely imagine Nintendo staff rubbing thier hands together,  basking in the joy of selling 100,000 copies of pikmin 3 at $0, 100,000x$0 sure is a lot of money :P

but thats where you are wrong. It would be selling 100,000 copies of Mario Kart 8 and Pikmin 3 combined at $60 which equals $6,000,000

Seems as though A couple games (Pikmin 3/WiiPartyU/LoZ WW HD/NSMBU) benefited from the MK8 offer! Take a look...

Total WW Sales

● 1.63mil: Pikmin

● 1.20mil: Pikmin 2

●   790k:  Pikmin 3 (+132k Digital Sales from US)

So interestingly Pikmin 3 and the top 13 games overall (these include retail games Wii Party U+LoZ WW HD) all have way above 132k in digital sales.

(From NPD)

LTD Software Sales:    Mario Kart 8 [WIU] 753K Retail Standalone, 885k Total

What do you think? I know MK8 free offer helped out but still, Currently 1mil seller for Pikmin 3?!!! And Wii Party U should Easily be over 1.5mil now WW!

That's great and all and I love Pikmin 3 but, if it's free through promotion, it's not really a "sale"...right?

You are paying for it by buying MK8, so it is a sale. You need to "Purchase" a product to get the free one. I dont see the difference with this and bundling digital sales. Evn Nintendo includes LoZ WW HD free sales and its the same thing as this. (buy the wiiu limited edition, get a code for LoZ WW HD free)

The MK8 promotion is basically $30 for Mk8 and another $30 game of your choice. It counts as a sale for all 4 promotion games.

and you will NOT lose your digital games when the servers shut down.

No no the point of the patch for this scenario is useless. You cannot transfer from Wii U to Wii U if one of your Wii U has failed.

However, it can show the interest that people have in the series. That's the deal here, if Nintendo sees demand, they will continue to support the franchise. And even recently they launched an update for the game, basically after one year of the launch of the game. I have my hopes very high for a Pikmin 4 this generation.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I know. That's why I stated as in the case that you are preemptive to the system breaking down, and that the system doesn't just completely implode out of the blue.

But what if the transfer works like from Wii to Wii U was/is? You can transfer stuff over but have to redownload some games? And what If Nintendo is finished when you need to do this? Your not going to be able to retrieve your digital copy then :(

Well that's true. I guess 1m sales is alright then. I was a bit harsh calling it a flop.

Nintendo games get price drops after a really long time though.

I don't think the game has flopped, if we see its context. Nintendo must be conscious that the series never sold that good on the GameCube, and the Wii U is doing even slower. So 800K copies (and I think the game is overtracked) in this context is really good.
