I get what you're saying about game sales through bundles, but this game came free with MK8 so I wouldn't really include its sales that came from the MK8 promotion, as part of its total sales.

Why not??

If I went down to EGamestop right now and bought SM3DW and got Pikmin 3 for free as a promotion they are running would you count that?? Because I know VGChartz and NPD sure would.

This is a big offer though. A gamestop promotion would have a very tiny affect on total sales.

Let me ask this then, if games given free with mk8 are considered a sale, should games given free on xbl/ps+ be considered sales, too, since you had to buy the subscription to acquire them?

PS+ games are long term rentals though, you have to stay subscribed =P

Not sure if MS is the same

and the free game with mk8 is technically a long term rental,  too,  its just a longer term 'till they shut down the servers" at an unknown point in the future.

point being is its a digital only copy,  far short of leaving it installed forever and hoping your machine never breaks,  youre at the mercy of network functionality to have access to it.

You get to keep games with gold titles forever.

Then every digital sale ever is a long term rental technically =P

hmm, it still kinda flopped.
I expect it to reach 1.5m but mainly cause of the MK8 promotion. Otherwise it was destined to stay under 1m.

If you ask me, 1.5 million wouldn't be a flop by Pikmin standards..

1.5m is good but before the promotion it was at 800k, which isn't that good.

every digital transaction,  yes.

Promotion sales count because it's a sale. $60 for MK8 + a free download game basically just means both games are $30 a piece.

which means it's still a legitimate sale, just a price cut sale.

I hope Pikmin3 sells well-   It is a great series that I hope returns in the future- I bought it day 1 or close when it came out

re the digital promotion w MK8, I wonder how many people chose to download Wii Party U because they already had the other 3 games?

if I did not already have the other 3 games , Wii U Party would have been the last game I chose- but the kids seem to like it and that matters more than anything

So wait, how many of the sales came from the MK8 promo? Surely more than 100k took advantage of it. I figured far more would have taken advantage of it.

Here is the problem, we only kno that in the US eshop, the top 13 games are all over 132k. LoZ WW HD is the highest sold game and Pikmin is currently #3 (#2 for retail game).

As MK8 is still at 13th with Wii Party U at 12th currently and the 132k is from July 5th. Pikmin 3 was currently in the top 15 before the promotion even started. 132k is the absolute minimum. For all we know Pikmin 3 digital sales can be over 200k, maybe even 300k!

Unfortunately all we kno is anything in the top 13 and/or is above MK8 has alot of sales (US only). Europe had 10 games to choose from so the sales probably wont favor Pikmin+LoZ as much as in the US (due to 4 games to choose from).

NSMBU is also above 132k, but the difference with that and LoZ is tht they been in the top way before MK8 showed up (LoZ been #1 for almost a year now!)

Well to be fair its only been a year and the game probably sold 850k-900k lifetime already. This just means it will get between an extra 100k-500k lifetime, so a million was going to happen. Holidays are good for nintendo 1st party's, and if it flopped, the price would of had a huge notable drop like W101, Sonic Lost World, etc :)

Well that's true. I guess 1m sales is alright then. I was a bit harsh calling it a flop.

Nintendo games get price drops after a really long time though.
