I am of... mixed opinions, bit on the fence about it.

On the one hand, Nintendo is in a unique position as kind of being 'separate' from the whole Xbox One and PS4 debacle, in terms of content and titles and such; while Sony and Microsoft grapple over exclusive bits and pieces, Nintendo's off doing its own Nintendo thing. If you own an Xbox One or a PS4 and are considering a second console, in terms of pure Number-Of-New-Titles getting a Wii U would be far more reasonable than just buying the 'other Sony/Microsoft machine.' Nintendo also largely has the market cornered when it comes to fun, local co-op multiplayer titles, as when I have friends over for a night of gaming, ten percent might be spent with 'Oooo, lookit this new game I got for my PS3' and 90% is spent hurling red shells at each other in Mario Kart. In other words, generally speaking a gamer is only going to pick a PS4 AND Xbox One over a PS4/Xbox One AND WiiU if they have absolutely zilch interest in Nintendo's offerings

This makes them, in my opinion, a bit of a wild card, with the potential to enjoy a success all their own. If enough Playstation-only owners, and Xbox-only owners, eventually get a WiiU to flesh out their gaming library, then it could definitely bump the Wii U to second place. Again, this is if. (The reason I don't believe this same thing would give the WiiU first place is, quite simply, Nintendo's studios can't match the volume of titles that the third party studios on Xbox One and PS4 will be delivering to those two consoles alone.)

It also boils down to just how big the sales difference between the PS4 and Xbox One end up being; obviously, the more the Xbox One is able to recover from its previous, er, obstacles, the larger a challenge it will pose to the WiiU to maintain its lead. But if the PS4 grossly overshadows the Xbox One, AND many of those PS4 gamers choose to make the WiiU their second console as opposed to the Xbox One... combined with the Xbox One owners who also make WiiU their second console, and folks who only own a WiiU, it's certainly not impossible.

Once again, all ifs, and I can't even begin to guess how likely any of it is, which is why I'm on the fence. That and, frankly, sales data up until now don't really support it happening in the forseeable future; just have to wait and see how things progress.

I personally dont think that the xbone will outsell the wii u since the wii u has some spectacualr games coming out inculding bayonetta 2 and ssb

The price cut did less for the XB1 than MK8 did for the Wii U. The Wii U was on life support with a DNR before MK8 release and nothing good was said about it. The XB1 gad a much higher baseline than the Wii U so it really didn't see that big a jump. Also, it's a 5 week NPD, so this month had an extra week's worth of sales. Looking at it with all that in mind, the gains from the price cut were abysmal.

The Wii U needs more third party support.

Yes but I can almost guarantee that from here on Xone will sustain higher numbers than Wii U moving forward. In addition to my defecting casuals argument there is also the perception of last gen specs and no 3rd part support for Wii U. I believe XOne's second place is locked in easily. There is also the big exclusives on the way... and yes I'm talking Halo and Gears. Few million payers are waiting for these including me and I don't plan to upgrade until then along with rest of many. Furthermore Black Friday to Christmas is always a very strong selling period for Xbox. I dont expect anything too different in the coming years with the exception that PS4 is a far greater competitor moving forward. Just hope Sony as a whole can withstand the current financial turmoil.

I think MS should focus on 2nd place this gen and I think they will reach it quite easily after this holiday. After that, the distance will only grow.

Really? Because we can see the xbox popularity droping month after month while the wii u is slowly increasing since mk8. Its all reflected in the sales. And did you see how sad that bumb was for the pricecut? expect even less than that for july-september when the x1 has no games coming. The wii u has 2 games coming, even if they are not the bigest they will definetly increase sales.

What exactly does MS have to offer this holiday season? Just MCC? Genuinely curious.

Let them have the month. They haven't had much to celebrate saleswise.
