Forums - Gaming - Will the XB1 be able to outsell the Wii U from this point on?

i'm getting a good laugh too.   i can't believe how many genuinely don't think xbox will overtake wiiU.   it probably won't happen for quite a while but the evidence is pretty clear that xbox is tracking well ahead of wiiU.  xbox will overtake wiiU eventually.

People thinking that 3rd party titles like CoD are going to boost XB1 sales are in for a rude awakening.

There is literally ZERO reason to buy an XB1 for those games when the PS4 is the same price, looks better, and comes with exclusive content.

It's not just 3rd party, but the combination of both 3rd and 1st party from Microsoft. That managed to keep the original Xbox ahead of the GameCube, so I don't see how its impossible for that to happen again.

I also bought an XB1 over a PS4 despite the fact that PS4 has superior hardware. Hardware superiority isn't that big of a selling point to me obviously, I did buy a Wii U after all :P. I'd just rather have access to future XB1 exclusives than Sony's. Having owned a PS3 I just wasn't that impressed with the exclusives it offered aside from Gran Turismo & LittleBigPlanet :/

You probably shoulda reversed the order and had the 360 and the PS4. XD

On a serious note. The original XB stayed ahead of the Gamecube for two reasons.

1) Halo's massive successs. It revolutionized console FPS online play. Unfortunately for MS, Halo has gone downhill since 2007, and there's no more groundbreaking online play since its become standard for every FPS. XB360 Halos sold well because they were established and hyped exclusives for the best selling FPS console. The series started to Decline after 3 though, and it's no longer on the best selling, non-wii, console.

2) Gamecube was a marketing disaster. It was weaker, looked terrible, and the color scheme was awful. The group they were aiming for wanted nothing to do with it. Do you want the sexy, sleek PS2 or do you want the underpowered purple lunch box with the carrying handle and creepy children laughing? It took me a long time to mature into the Gamecube. A lot of people couldn't see the amazing games over the terrible looking package they were played by.

As it stands, XB1 is in the most trouble because it can't rely on those third party games to sell it, due to the PS4 being superior in every way, and it doesn't have the depth of first parties like Nintendo does.

Yes, people will say they bought an XB1 and plan to get third party games on it, but those are people settling for the lesser games because they want a Halo or Gears, not because of the third party games. That's also why Halo sales won't be as big a system seller as people think, because the only people with the XB1 are fans of the series.

X1 can't hold on to second place because it's not in second place, it's in third, by a good margin. Don't know why that's so hard to fathom for most Xbox fans - it's far behind Wii U in sales, regardless of the latter releasing earlier. Xbox One is in third place.

It will have to outsell Wii U by a TON regularly to have any chance of overtaking it in the foreseeable future.

Wii-U is riding on Mario Kart right now and it will be lucky to stay above 50k a week until October. Meanwhile Xbox One will stay around the same level but will pick up by the end of August with games like Madden and then Destiny hits. After that it's a steady stream of games and the release in remaining territories will give a nice bump in sales on launch. There is a good change that Wii-U come close to Xbox One even in the week that Bayonetta 2 releases, and by the time SSB releases Xbox One will be doing holiday numbers.

I agree that you should look at absolute numbers and Wii-U is in front of Xbox One, but Wii-U was doing 20k-ish weeks last July while Xbox One is doing 60k now. Come september Xbox One will probably do double the sales the Wii-U is doing maybe even more, and that's without the launch in new territories.

Meanwhile PS4 will probably outsell both combined.

Bolded: You mean the games no one in their right mind would ever buy an XB1 for?

Your devotion to the XB1 seems misplaced. Nintendo will be in far better shape than the XB1 come this holiday season because its sales won't be choked out by the PS4.

Experimental42, the Game cube was stronger than PS2 I think.

It wasn't really stronger, it was just much faster and easier to work with initially. The PS2 had more raw power.

It was! Just compare the PS2 and GC versions of RE4.. The PS2 version looks like utter crap and there are less enemies on screen at any given time!

i'll give it 50/50 on who is second at the end of this holiday.   ..but before going into next holiday i'll take any bet that xbox takes second place.
