Forums - Gaming - Star Citizen creator gets a PS4 dev kit but insists 'It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform'

Following the arrival of a PS4 dev kit at the home of Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium, and the subsequent spotting of the console on the CTO’s desk, rumours have been flying around that the open-world space flight combat game could be earmarked for Sony’s machine.

However, Cloud Imperium game designer Chris Roberts has been quick to debunk such rumours, taking to the robertsspaceindustries.com forums to berate consoles claiming that they are “mid-level gaming PCs," whereas the PC "is always moving forward, with new powerful components (usually at cheaper prices) becoming available to gamers available every year."

“Star Citizen IS a PC game. It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform,” said Roberts. “We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and technology just because they will only run on some hardware configurations.”

However, he does end his rant by stating that a PS4 and Xbox One version isn’t totally out of the question.

“IF the platform holders (Sony & Microsoft) allow us to update the code and data without restrictions and odious time consuming QC procedures, IF they allow our community to openly interact with each other across platforms then I would CONSIDER supporting them.”

Well, that's probably very unlikely, so if you do fancy playing Star Citizen you'll simply have to upgrade your PC by the sound of it. Or simply forget it exists and continue playing great games on PS3 and PS4.

So he basically says PS4 (and obviously XBO) = lesser platforms with limited input options.

How do you dumb down something that's already dumb?

Hes not bound by a parity clause

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

1. Console gamers dont want this game.
2. Graphics dont mean a good game.

It seems PC only gamers / developers are really jealous. They use consoles as "benchmark" for GPU power. They use consoles as a measuring point. Lol. Console are like Call of Duty from "PC gamers point of view". They dont like it. Yet it sells a ton.

~ Assuming people would even want a port

He is straight in his boots and goes for a game designed for the PC platform (compare with X rebirth ^^). I like that !

He can play Star Citizen on PC, and I will play Halo MCC on my "dumbed down" machine :).

Allow PC and console players to play together? PSN has history of working well with PC Steam game like Portal 2, and a few others. XBL has also allowed some cross-platform play between X360 and their Games for Windows Live thing on PC.

I suppose it is possible that either Sony or Microsoft or both, will allow the console and PC game players to inter-operate like they do for many of the MMO games (like Final Fantasy XIV and probably some others). The PS3 & PS4 I know also supports mouse/keyboard for some games, so no "control" compromises needed. I imagine its not a big deal to allow similar for XBO (if not already).

In the end, people that already own PS4 or XBO could have the mid-level PC experience of Star Citizen, so long as they are willing to play with keyboard and mouse. I would rather that than have to get a PC gaming rig.

I dont want that boring MMO in PS4. But devlopers probably want and will make silly arguments when there is no demand. Just like cryteck. I pity these developers. I guess these guys want to have some mental peace thinking themselves are superior.
