they may come from gaf insiders, but for years theyve been backed up with corporate statements.  Its interesting that now that the ps4 is winning, the same insider who shared years of 360 data, is now wrong.

im expecting on the lines of 40k per week its a summer month so around 200k

Even if PS4 drops off a bit, with the 5 week, I suspect it will be around the 199k+ mark..... can't see the XBO doing more than 120 ish. Gap will still be large unless PS4 sales drop off badly, which I don't really see... but thursday will be interesting.

They come from the most reliable neogaf insider.  This person has been sharing NPD data for years.  But its never just straight numbers unless from one of the big 3.  Its basically hints.  like its half a certain month, or double some other, this much better then something else,  at which point its left to gaf to do all the math and figure everything out.  although he will make sure everyone is on mark and getting things right.  His leaks also stand up to when the big 3 mention NPD results.    The insider also makes fun of VGC numbers lol

df is a doubter, hes been doubting NPD results for a while and has been fighting about it.  i believe he said, and i quote.. "I belive when they are disclaimed by official sources..."    everyone else though widely accepts them as being right

In praticaly 3 years I follow NeoGaf I´ve never seen a "insider" leak the exactaly correct number befor any major companie reveal in their statements. 

But if Thuway was correct in the previous NPD releases, the insiders already have the numbers on their hands. And we all know how well how reliable his insides have been. Unfortunaly the only way of knowing if they are corect is if any companie reveal the total sales.

Again, they strapolate the numbers based on previous years (some time they are also strapolated) and on small bits some journalists have to share.

Feanor ur reaching here. This is how it works..

  • Nintendo releases official numbers of wiiU sales and announces them to be 60k. 
  • NPD says PS4 is best selling console for the month 
  • NPD also says total hardware sales for that month is 700k (wiiU,wii, 360, XB1, PS3, Vita, PSP and PS4)
  • MS annouces that XB1 sales are 20% up YOY when compared to 360 and we have MS released NPD data for 360 for that month last year.

Just by looking at that information above, its starts becoming easy to use the info given to get the actual numbers. Thats why we go to school. Not everything needs to be sppon fed. But I feel you, you can discredit the "insiders" all you want but it really always can go both ways. They could be as right as you think they could be wrong.

Two things though, anytime MS doesn't talk about numbers in the NPD response, then it means they lost. Or when they use some spin like "xbox family" and even that they don't do anymore. And secondly, in all honesty.... if the NPD, or the insiders had XB1 topping the charts.... will you be saying any of this?

Apparently they are only correct if the platform you are supporting is on top. Better?
