Forums - Nintendo - Why Does Nintendo Fail at Creating a Brand?

Nintendo is the brand and is an amazing brand.

Sony is a huge company and their Gaming division is the Playstation, their next console could be called Orbis but it would always be the PLAYSTATION Orbis.

Same with Nintendo except they mostly only make games/toys. Nintendo is the Brand, The Wii U is the product.

Bonus Example: Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One. Xbox is the brand.

The U is actually a 2 in roman numerals.

I don't know where you got this, but the U as a letter didn't even exist until after the Romans. They used V, which is 5.

OT: Nintendo fails at creating brands because they don't even try. First, they don't like iterating too much. Second, they like their products to be associated with Nintendo more strongly than with the product line itself.

What's the problem? That is my opinion. It disagrees with yours.

"You could also call it having a big enough sack to try new things and approach their customers in a different way."

That's an opinion? I mean a legit answer not some post that attempts to defend Nintendo and rip on the others for no reason. Yes, because the reason Sony keeps the Playstation brand is because the boss has a small sack...see how little that has to do with a topic?

Again, I respect all opinions and like having actual conversations with people on here but what you posted wasn't an actual opinion on the topic. It was like you had nothing to actually say regarding the topic because you didn't like my opinion, so instead you ripped on the other systems and their small sacked bosses...

I think you're taking it a little too litterally. Rebranding themselves every decate or so is unique and keeps things interesting (for better or for worse). What you call failure is what I call one of the reasons they've had 8 seccessful generations of hardware and software sales.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

I don't think Nintendo fails at creating a brand, their characters and unique IP's are what create the "Nintendo brand", for example seeing that a console has a Mario or Zelda game is what makes people say "oh that's a Nintendo console".

I dunno know dude, "Wii", "Game Boy" and "DS" are pretty huge brands (at their peak).

So you're suggesting they be just like Sony. Right.

And while we're at it, why couldn't Atari, or Sega, have been more like Sony? And why can't Xbox get it's numbering right? lol.............................

Simply because Nintendo is wildly throwing disruptive ideas, and when they finally caught the car from the chase, they are mind-numbingly incompetent to even know what to do with it.

The DS brand has sold about 200m= success. The Gameboy brand must have shifted over 200m= success. Yes Nintendo are pretty shitty when it comes to brands

I think from the beginning it has been just "Nintendo".
"Nintendo" Entertainment System
Super "Nintendo" Entertainment System
"Nintendo" 64
"Nintendo" Gamecube etc.

That's actually quite right lol. From the early days we got an N64, my parents started calling everything that's related to gaming 'The Nintendo'. Literally everything... even if there is a big writing that says PS4 or whatever, it's still 'The Nintendo'.

That somehow reminds me of this
