I don't know where you got this, but the U as a letter didn't even exist until after the Romans. They used V, which is 5.
OT: Nintendo fails at creating brands because they don't even try. First, they don't like iterating too much. Second, they like their products to be associated with Nintendo more strongly than with the product line itself.
