Please, don't! Games should go on sale when they're finished, not 1 year before that when they're in alpha.

You should buy your games when they are finished, and let other people make the choice not to.

Why force your ideals on others ?

It's good for devs, more budget before hitting deadline. I'm pretty sure it would only concern indie games though.

When companies release terrible ideas and people support it from the "sheep portion" of gamers we'll call it, it leads to bad things for everyone.  Singleplayer main storyline cut out DLC, on disc DLC, season passes, microtransactions on consoles, Day 1 giant patches, unfinished releases, digital game pricing.  A lot of elements of these shit trends in gaming are results of support from certain corners of videogamers.  If no one supported these ideas, they never would have become forced on the entire gaming industry.

Seeing gameplay is not the same as playing it yourself. A game can look great, but not be what you think it is. Atleast you should be able to play it a bit first and then have the option to pay in advance...

Then consumers shouldn't have been so accepting of the loss of demo's.  Again, the industry is merely reacting to what we, the consumers, have shown them is both profitable and acceptable.

Who was accepting of the loss of demos? There is nothing we can do about that?

Don't buy games without demo's, when numerous titles flop day 1 and the feedback they get is lack of demo.  They'll rethink their strategy.  But, getting a gamer to resist that next fix is akin to asking a heroin junky to resist the temptation of their next fix.

Why is it that people assume that gamers are sheep who can't make decisions on their own? No one is forcing anyone to buy and play early access games. If it's not for your, don't buy it. All you get to do with this is pre-order a game and get to play it when it's not ready yet. While some of us have no interest in it, others do. So let them have this option.

I still don't get this whole "If I don't like, no one can have it" attitude.

It's more like early-access encourages devs to release an alpha product for money, and since they already have the money, there's less incentive for them to make the game the best they can. It's not the same with all games, true, but as a big Steam user I can tell you that the vast majority of early-access games end up being mediocre, or worse.

So, in other words, people shouldn't waste their money on games that might end being mediocre. Agreed. But who are we to tell them what to do with their money? Also, I'm sure every developer wants to make the best game they can (some times they don't because of lack of time or funds) in order to turn them into franchises or make more money thanks to good word of mouth. The games you've tried ended up being bad because the developer was bad. Not because they got enough money and called it a day.

I sure hope not.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Again, if you don't support these ideas, don't buy these games. And if you don't buy these (bad) games, you have no interest in them, so no reason to rant on forums about abusive dlcs and other early access.

so question if i dont like the game that i got early access to am i stuck with the game?

Yes. It's non-refundable.

Alright then, so since this seems to pertain only to digital titles and they can't have shortages, I just won't pay for this.

No big deal then. Basically if you want to take the risk and pre-purchase a digital title knowing full well you have no chance of a refund then what's the harm in being able (if you choose) to beta test it?

Carry on.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

What is the cost for early-access? You wouldn't be required to place a fully paid pre-order right?

You're paying for the game in full. You play it as it's being built. Normally, the game wouldn't be put up for Early Access if it's not at least in a playable state. The game gets updated damn near every other day because you're playing the game as it's being built. When the game is completed you'll be playing it in its complete form because of all of the updates.

OT: If you don't like this idea... don't buy. It's not as if you HAVE TO get the game early. This just makes it easier for dev/publishers to fund their games. And I do not think this should be free because you're not playing a demo or some fraction of a product. You're playing the entirety of what exists of the game.

So if I stop buying games without a demo, then publishers will take notice?

Developers can do whatever they want. Release an hour long game and charge £40 for it. If people are willing to spend their money on DLC, season passes, easrly access, etc, more power to them. I won't stop them and I have no right to tell them what's good for them. It's their decision. Like you, I vote with my wallet and strongly disagree with such practises. BUT, if people want to spend their money on such things, so be it.

The way I see it, the only proper reason to complain is if it actually limits your options. This doesn't.
