Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's Problem -- There Simply Isn't Room For 3 Consoles

Zelda 1 and OoT are the only legitimate revolutions in gaming. Some of these are something that should be expected in a game world like zelda such as daily routines for npc's and more open exploration. Transforming to a wold isn't revolutionary and was utilized very well from what I recall. The motion controls in TP were tacked on. The 1:1 motion control was interesting but inherently flawed.

Of course it was flawed their first go around.  They change things up every game, so of course its not going to go smoothly.  Yes it's expected that all of this stuff will happen eventually, but doing it WAY earlier than expected is what makes it great.  Like those daily routines, do you think anyone could have conceived a way of doing that as early as Nintendo did them?  Not only did they add them but they set the bar for what a perfect implementation of that will eventually be.  Skyrim doesn't have daily routines that detailed in it yet.

If that was a Sony/Microsoft franchise they would just reuse the engine and change the characters.  Exactly what way is that better?

Nintendo needs to stick around because Microsoft and Sony do nothing but play it safe.  Exactly what does Microsoft bring to the table?

It's hard to come up with a unique idea every single time though, those ideas just don't grow on trees.

And the NES, really it dominated because it had every third party game imaginable whereas the Sega Master System, being locked out of third party contracts had ... Sega games only (kinda bizarre how Nintendo has sort of inadvertantly become Sega from the Master System days).

Yeah, Nintendos buisness practises during the NES and SNES were questionable to say the least...

But effective, lol.

Sega gave them one hell of a fight with the Genesis. They deserve much credit for that.

Did you quote me on the last page?

You have to quote me again if so. My iPad refuses to load certain pages on this site. The last page of this thread is one of them.

To me they are very much needed. I couldnt imagine a gaming industry without Nintendo hardware.

Why not?  Sure they have always made consoles but the ones they make these days is bad no matter hiw you put it. I would love not having to buy an inferior console just to play 2 nintendo exclusives every 6 months and nothing else. Nintendo fans need to realize that will only gain by having their stuff on another more technologically advanced machine.

How will they gain? Theyll make less money per game sold. Fans would have to buy several systems if they decided to have one franchise exclusive to PS4, one exclusive to XB1, some on mobile phones and PC. Games would take longer to make because they would have to port it to different systems. We would have to pay to play MK and SSB online.

I dont see that at all. Just "moar powar" is not a reason to get out of the console buisness...

I would be open to an alliance with Sony where they are allowed to have input on hardware decisions and perhaps primary branding on the handheld. I could live with that.

But I think going "full Sega" would suck and kind of rob Nintendo of their focus.

I think they're going to do the Fusion thing next gen anyway, so the "2 games every 5-6 months worth playing" will soon go out the window. They are able to supply enough games to play year round ... just not for 2 seperate platforms (no one can do that).

I'm sorry but the the daily routines are not complex at all. Shenmue did it first and better. Nintendo plays it much safer than sony at the very least. Nintendo uses Mario so much for a reason.
