Forums - Gaming Discussion - If the PS4 wins this gen, consoles will become obsolete

PC has it's own exclusives though, and not all mid end rigs are "expensive" either.

They do which is why said "many of the exclusives".

But clearly a lot of people can't live without Sony exclusives as demonstrated by the PS4 sales numbers . So as along as Sony doesn't allow them to go multiplat there will always be a huge segment of gamers willing to buy consoles.

You said "without many of the exclusives".

There are a lot more gamers out there that aren't on Sony systems as well. Gaming isn't just made up of just 3 consoles and one OS, it's made up of multiple OS's, multiple consoles and devices. There are practically a lot more gamers out there in total, than there on on PC or consoles alone.

The way Xbox is headed, they are just giving people choices, even Sony sees this though, and it's honestly a good thing, because it means more options, means more consumers, means more money.

Honestly i don't mind being wrong or being percieved as wrong. Its a good discussion to be had right now. Now my assumption might not have happend in the timeframe i set but wouldnt it be great to have for lets say 10 -20 euros a month extra a device you would have had otherwise anyway that can stream or play what consoles or older pcs can play aswell hell maybe even highend pcs with enough technological advancements? Instead of simply saying no, think with me

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

The OP makes no sense, especially now. If anything, Sony has made consoles more relevant by pushing for extremely high quality exclusive games.

Not trying to put MS or Xbox down in any way, as I thoroughly appreciate MS for their support to the PC community, but their push in the PC market has essentially made Xbox more or less an affordable way to play their games, while core games that are truly interested in getting the best will get them through PC.

Mobile devices like phones won't ever come close to consoles in power due to the fact that there's a limit to how much power they can consume ...

Why don't people understand this?

for GPU: i dont know, its just graphics and resolution

Not anymore it's not. It's a very powerful compute tool, so you can use it for things like Physics and 3D Positional audio.

It takes about a generation for Phones to start getting near a console... At the moment we are in that funny place of having games with Xbox 360 levels of geometric complexity but with some other assets reminiscent of the Xbox One/Playstation 4.

Moores law does mean that phones can match a console, it just takes a long time... The same thing holds true with Console vs PC, PC can have much higher powerlevels.

For example, the Adreno 680 should be able to match the Xbox One in most tasks, especially when half precision is leveraged... The CPU that it is paired with should already have the edge anyway.

Not for another generation or two. Not mobile, but streaming will replace consoles eventually. Too many people not taking Stadia whatever it's called seriously enough.

Because it's Google.  Who are notorious for both abandoning projects rapidly and crippling their own projects through bizarre decision making.

Honestly, no.  I don't want to play games on my tiny ass phone screen.  And if I'm going to have to hook it up to my TV or a monitor anyway, then I might as well just stick with a console.  Especially against a cost of 10-20 Euros a month extra.  A dedicated console + games would be price equivalent at the worst over a 5-7 year lifespan of the console

There's also a critical flaw in your implied argument.  There's not going to be a single streaming service at €10-20 per month.  There's going to be a number of them.  Each with their own exclusives and features.  You're dramatically underestimating the cost to the consumer.

Even if Stadia were going to cost that much it wouldn't offer many games of worth. Stadia would just get generic 3rd party AAA games. Any exclusives of any sort just wouldn't show up on the system. Imagine if Stadia had launched at the start of 2018. Here's all the quality new games the service would have in 2018...

And that is really stretching it, because who knows if Namco or Capcom would really want to put their games on a service at launch like that. MH World is only just now coming to Gamepass, so if Stadia had been out in 2018, it likely would just now be coming to Stadia as well.

Why are you claiming those are the only games it would get?

It's not the only games it would launch with. But those are all the good games from 2018 that are not exclusives. So on a year by year basis the library would be limited compared to any other option. MS has their own services that they will want to promote, so no MS exclusives on Stadia. Sony and Nintendo won't bother either. PC exclusives are unlikely to make it to Stadia due to their niche audiences.
