I think the PS4 will be hitting its full stride after reaching $300 per console and that may very well be within the next two years. Sales will be slow to start but this is a marathon, not a race. . |
I forgot about this argument. No, Sony will not have longer console sales legs. PS1 sold about 20 million post PS2 launch. I believe PS4 will do numbers closer to PS1 numbers than PS2. Meaning when PS5 is released it could sell about the same or less as PS1. PSP will probabaly sell about 15 million post VITA. PS4 may be selling well but it is nowhere near PS2 numbers or WIi Numbers (However LTD on launch allign might show something different). It is safe to say that PS4 will not sell like PS2 but more like PSP/PS1. PS2 was an anomaly.

Another one I forgot to mention. When the PS3 had no games it sold 9 million in 2007. Its peak year was 14 million. Meaning it got a 5 million boost from being half the price AND having games. I will also once again draw similarities with PS2. Going by memory PS2 had nothing good at launch and sold 17 million. Its peak year was 21 million WITH the games. Only a 4 million increase. So no unless you are WIi,NES,DS,PS1,360 your sales will not increase more than 5 million from start to peak.

PS4 isn't even doing good anymore, it's simply doing better than the competition (barring 3DS). 3DS and PS4 are average, okay. Maybe even a bit under.

What should the PS4 be doing, in July, as a 7 month old machine? Doing good compared to what?

It is not doing good compared to Wii and is doing worse than PS2 at the moment. So I guess that's what he is comparing it to.
