Forums - Gaming - Why some men opt to play as women when given the option!

I don't get when people say they pick a female character because the ass they're staring at while playing might as well be girl's. I don't look at the player character's ass, female or not. The scenery is much more interesting, and the HUD much more informative.

I prefer playing as a guy because I get more immersed, and so I wouldn't look at the character unless I've donned a new shiny armor.

The guy in the article who spends hours sculpting the face of his waifu has problems.

I always like playing females more for some reason. More agile, faster, etc. I even pick Princess Peach and Diana over the male characters in Mario Kart.

Its Daisy

My fault. I actually saw Princess Diana on telelvision at the time and probably subconsciously wrote Diana. I meant Daisy though.

Everyone has their reasons. I generally don't play as males because 1) its basically the defacto already and 2) looks to bland for my tastes. Granted gender doesn't really affect my immersion any more than skin color does. Its just preferance that became habit over the years for me. I honestly don't get why it matters? I agree that Women need a stronger presence, but at the same time those saying they're objectified are just being ridiculous. All video game characters are basically objectified more or less. I remember the armhair thing they showed for COD ghosts, come one seriously?

Given the choice, I always create a character that I can somewhat identify to, so I never created a girl character. But I don´t care if the character is a girl, like in Tomb Raider.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I always pick a female when I can. (usually RPG's) If I'm going to be staring at my character's rearend for countless hours I'd rather it be a girl's.

Edit: I now see I'm not alone.  Haha.

What about Skyrim? First Person games ruin this argument. Even Dragon Age you can put armour on which obscures such a thing.

Haven't played Skyrim but Oblivion I always played in the 3rd person view.  I'm more into the souls games in which I always build the same little blonde drink of water.  Looks exactly like my wife so she wouldn't get mad.  lol

I seriously wish more games would give you the role of a black, hispanic, indian, asian male/female.
I hate to say it but 9 times out of ten, it's the usual 20 to 30 something, white, bald or buzzcut male. It doesn't stop me from playing but I thought, as an example, Delsin was a great change from McGrath. A distinct new character with a distinct culture and ethnicity (granted, it didn't play much into the game's story but still.

Throw in a black guy or an asian from time to time, that is all i am asking devs to do. That being said, as I have said a few times before, I always play male. It helps me put myself in their shoes, helps me relate and fantasize a bit. I'll have female characters in my party and such, but sometimes ill go with an all out male team (especially if I can give them names, which are usually of friends I know IRL)

You never know we might get Diana dlc. But in a game about car battling it might be a bit to close to the bone. :P

Personally I find it creepy when guys say they play as a female because they'd rather look at a pretty arse or something for hours instead of a guy, or that they find them attractive and stuff, things that like really freak me out, I mean, jesus christ guys, it's a videogame character, it's not real, and up until the last decade or so, they've looked like lego characters... you make it seem like you're so attached to this female character because of how she looks, that you just pick the female option and sit there violently masturbating with a huge smirk on your face or something, and that's what annoys me.

I always pick male by default, especially if it has a proper character creation, since I like to create myself in the game, however, if the gender choice affects the story significantly, and not just a few sentences and word swaps (Her instead of him and so on), then I'll play as the female AFTER I've finished the story with the male character.

Jeez louise.  How do you take picking a female over a male because that's what someone would rather look at to mean they masturbate furiously and obsessively over said character?  Just given the choice I'd rather look at a girl, that's it.

I read the first sentences and thought it was talking about using female avatars on forums. I mostly wonder why grown men use females, or children as avatars on forums. It is stranger than playing a female in character in a game.
