That Iwata versus Reggie footage in E3 must have scared the voters.

Now that you mention it, what is Reggie's approval rating?

Maybe he doesn't get one because he is Nintendo of America instead.

Does he have one, though? Anywhere?

Victory for Iwata-san

Miyamoto is not too much of a surprise. Though, I'm glad that Takeda is lowering, him and his "power doesn't matter", approach needs to go.

Right, because going with power as the focus worked so well for the Gamecube.

Numbers are skewed from last year, where are the 50k voters who did not vote this year for Iwata?

The GameCube got fucked over by the kiddy image and the crappy mini-disc format which didn't offer enough storage!

Why does this matter?

Because consistency matters?

Average voters for the prior 4 years is 985k with a total change of no more than 20k votes, total voters for this year is down to 947k (-50 from laste year) and with only a 7k increase in his approval, doesnt seem like this confidence vote is on any type of solid foundation...imo

Even if we assume that all of the missing votes would be disapproval, Iwata's approval rating would still be up over last year's. And that's coming off a financial year where Nintendo missed their Wii U forecast by a huge margin and their 3DS forecast by a sizeable margin. That's a pretty strong vote of confidence in Iwata righting the ship, especially because the common expectation was a significant drop in Iwata's approval rating.

Im sure if the vote was held prior to the end of the fiscal year, the numbers would be extremely different.  Its easy to overcome expectations when they bar is set so low, even the smallest jump gets you over the hump and that is what Nintendo layed out in May.  The flat year on year confidence vote just means, to me, that voters are waiting to see what Iwata does with everything Nintendo announced last fiscal year to overcome said lower console and software sales, it is in no way a validation that his changes are a step in the right direction for Nintendo.

Their timing of Mario Kart was genius. I have a feeling when results come in tho the situation will be a bit clearer, as it stands now we're hearing a lot about WiiU getting boosts and it sounds great, but the actual figures (I predict around 700k shipped Max (but more likely around 500k) whilst ok for WiiU are still very low. We shall see how things pan out, I don't envy being in Iwata's position tho, if they price cut they're going to lose a lot of money this holiday, if they don't they're simply not going to sell well as their forecast demonstrates.

Iwata got more votes than last year? That certainly was unexpected!
