Capcom opened up all their shares for purchase to raise capital and funds.  This in turn gave "gaming journalism" bait to work their "magic" and a bunch of "headlines" popped up saying Capcom is for sale (The technicality is that any company can now do a hostile take over, but not likely).  The only way Capcom can "sell" is if a bunch of investors talk with Capcom execs to purchase the company ala SCI and Eidos.  Which again, no public talks of something like this happening has occured.

Price is one of the the most important success factors. Of course the sales did not jump up immediately but this is because the X1 and PS4 both currently have even less games than Wii-U so there is absolutely no reason to buy one of these systems yet. You keep saying Nintendo needs a $200 Wii Sports Club bundle, yet you say that marketing, perception and awareness are big problems. Marketing the Wii U as nothing more than another Wii Sports machine with uprezzed graphics is going to solve Nintendo's problems? Are all the people with Wiis sitting in the backs of closets dying to go out and get the same game they jizzed over eight years ago?

Not only that, but do you really think the GamePad is costing Nintendo $100 a pop? Reports around the Wii U's launch said the GamePad cost about $50, so I'd imagine it would be cheaper a year and a half later. If you take away the GamePad and knock $100 off the current price, then you're scratching an itch with a buzzsaw. The GamePad is not the problem.

Oh, and by the way, guess what uses the GamePad in Wii Sports Club? Golf and baseball.

Go ask Wii buyers why they do not plan to buy the Wii-U. The #1 answer will be that they cannot imagine it could be fun to use such an awkward and over-sized tablet controller. The #2 answer will be that the price is too high. The #3 answer will be that there is no real sports bundle. Then there is the lack of 3rd party support caused by the small user base and childish image of the platform. And the lack of games, you need to wait 3 moths or more for the next game to be released.

You cannot ignore your customers and pretend everything is fine if you want be successful. I want Nintendo to be successful but it currently do not see it happening. If I was in charge of the company I would do everything to repeat the success of the original Wii and this still is very possible.

#1 answer would be: what's a Wii U?

They don't even think about the size of the controller. And those who have used it are very happy with it.

It is $100 dollars cheaper than the PS4 & XBox One (and a typical Wii buyer doesn't really know which console is more powerful, and they don't even care).

A typical Wii user doesn't even know that some games are first party and others are third party.

Good news for everyone but Nintendo fans. Iwata is bad for business in the long term. Short term he's the band aid solution to a mortal wound (i.e let him finish what he started because no one else knows the situation).
