Having them in a higher resolution or widescreen doesn't change the game. It just makes it look prettier. I am old enough to remember when only NEW games were released and let me tell you something, being able to look forward to fresh, new, surprising experiences was better. |
Some games REALLY need tweaking, though. I downloaded Super Mario World for my Wii U as a Club Nintendo reward, and was shocked at some of the changes that the Game Boy Advance remake had made, changes that i thought were only natural, like how getting hurt when you were Fire Mario or Cape Mario reverted to Super Mario, instead of all the way back to Tiny mario, or how every time you restarted after "saving" and quitting, your lives and score would reset.
Other older games had problems much more severe in terms of difficulty balance or other things which were accepted standards then but would be aggravating as all hell right now (can't imagine actually playing the real Fire Emblem 1, for instance. The game would be a nightmare compared to Fire Emblem 11).

Old games, games that were released some 20/30 years ago need tweeking? I fail to understand this logic. Isn't that basically George Lucas mentality? He did the same thing to his movies and fans universially puked.
I think what makes those games classic is because they're...classic. Once you take an old game and modernize it, it's no longer old OR modern. It's some weird inbetween. I think it's better to just leave the past in the past. If people want to have a peek into the past, then play what we all played back in the day and experience the way it was originally meant to be experienced.
But my post was more about getting old games, games that I already beat a bunch of times, instead of brand new experiences. I'd rather buy and play new games with new stories than plod through old story lines again.
