Yes.
Reception would have been much more sedate and perhaps even negative if it was a Sony/MS/PC title. Face it.

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare isnt a regular shooter if that helps your answer at all
pokoko said: Yeah, though the game does look fun. I'm mostly willing to overlook any suspicious reactions because of that. Still, that's nothing compared to The Devil's Third. I've been shocked at the people saying this game looks good. Had it been a PS3/360 game, the reactions would have been different to an extreme degree. There is no doubt in my mind that some of the people saying it looks interesting now would be blasting it out the water if it weren't a Wii U exclusive. It's just so strange to watch. It's like if people suddenly started raving about Call of Juarez: The Cartel. It's surreal. |
Devil's Third look quality-wise way mroe down the ladder than Splatoon. And indeed it got some praise and that seems ... strange. To be fair, while the single-player-trailer looked bad, the multiplayer looks like it *could* be some fun, but it is a high risk still. As I see it a few Nintendo-fans praise it because it is a dark 3rd-party game for WiiU, even fewer praise it in the hope it could be fun. But most are silent about the game, because it sends at least mixed messages, in my opinion even more on the side of bad. Not comparable to Splatoon.

What are you talking about? Most people agree Devil's third looks awful. It got eliminated pretty quickly in the Nintendo E3 game elimination thread. |
I would recommend saving your time and not bothering with this dude. Somehow few people became "most" people.
OT: Of course it is getting more attention because it made by Nintendo. When the best (okay i'll put one of the best) company makes a new ip. It is bound to get people exited. Remember when The Last of Us was unveiled, we were like ehhhh ooookkkkk...zomg Naughty Dog.

would be interested to hear your list. here is what i can come up with:
"shooter" is pushing it, to be honest. I think its just getting the attention cause its a new IP, non-mario related.

Yes, and it is justified. Naughty Dog and Nintendo both proofed already that they have a lot focus on quality. That is something you cannot judge before buying and playing the game. Trailers and advertisement can hide bad quality to a level. That's why comanies that strive for high quality can spark much more interest for their new projects.
Its different and unique, and every shooting game is the same thing which is getting boring.
Of course the game receives more attention when Nintendo shows up with fucking sixteen booths for playing it, highlights it in its primary event video, and has the Treehouse playing it several times.
Maybe Nintendo fans are also a little more likely to accept it as something interesting because it's on Nintendo, but that's hardly surprising either.
The real question is whether its a bad thing at all that Splatoon gets attention.
