Forums - Nintendo - People are underestimating the sales potential of Bayonetta 2 (plus predictions)

I hope it works out, I really do. Nintendo and Platinum deserve it, I just fear that so much damage was done to Nintendo's standing with hardcore players during the later Wii years (even the GameCube could drive some OK software sales in more niche-y titles), that the poor Wii U doesn't have a chance with these types of games.

Nintendo fans on boards like this are vocal, but they're a very small minority in reality, if they were the majority, things like Wonderful 101 would've sold at least 600k+ too, Zombi U would've cleared 2 million, and Metroid Prime 3 would've done like 5-6 million on the Wii.

1.5-2.9 million sales is big to me

3 million+ is huge

The will probably never get passed 800k though

I can't believe I'm saying this to you; but you are over-estimating this game. I seriously doubt it'll do 800k.

Well considering lego city sold 760k it would appear people that own wii U will buy games at random if they say nintendo on it. but 800k was my maximum

I couldn't comment on how good Lego City was relative to all the other Lego titles, but those are more suited to the Nintendo demographic than Bayonetta, so if a Lego title does under 800k on the Wii U, it's time to start making estimates for Bayonetta sales a bit more realistic.

800k would be great.

why is everybody thinking they know the wii u demographic? kids want whats popular and thats not the wii u.

i'm pretty sure the most wii u owner have a beard, or could grow one.

It would be a small miracle if the game breached the one million barrier. Two million and up is flat out delusional, it would be lucky to sell that much on ps4 and xbone.

As this is a genre that is clearly lacking on WiiU, and because of the bundle, I expect it to do better than I first thought. I will say between 800k-1.2M LT.
The game looks great by the way.

You do realise that The Wonderful 101 came first, right? And it's not that Nintendo bought an exclusive, it's that Nintendo chose to fund the game because nobody else was. In other words, they got Bayo 2 because they saw potential, they already had a relationship with Platinum (who brought the idea to them) and all of the third-party publishers were too risk-averse.

They did see potencial. Sales. From Bayo fans. Who cares if 101 came first. That's irrelevant.

Why did everyone ignore the person who told you guys this game only sold as well as it did because it hit the bargain bins so quick.

It wont go above 1million.

It will flop, and you will see no increase in HW sale.

600k lifetime seem about right.

600k estimate is a flop? ok then....

If a niche game like ZombiU can hit around 700k (possibly 800k with digital sales) then I can see Bayonetta breaking 1m in its lifetime if marketed and pushed, I would bet money both ZombiU and W101 would of sold far less on other platforms even with larger userbases. Nintendo weren't even expecting W101 to sell anything at all and it hit 200k.

The U has a strong attach rate at this point, I'll stick with a 1.2m lifetime prediction although I wouldn't be surprised if it sold more.
