I think it would be much easier to market, advertise, and ultimately, to sell as a cohesive concept.  Have something like Pokemon Colosseum as the hub, a real game around which figurine collecting would center.

The Pokemon brand is very strong and would support the concept immediately.  As it is, now they have to sell this "Amiibo" idea, even if "Nintendo" is the overall brand being displayed.  The negative of Amiibo is that they've got to inform people what it is first, where with Pokemon they could simply say, "hey, Pokemon NFC game!"  The positive, perhaps, is that they might be able to get younger kids interested in older IP, though we'll see if that happens.

I see your point, though it is very reasonable especially being for pokemon but the thing to remember is unlike Skylanders/Disney Infinity, this will be cross with ?? titles instead of a lock in 1 game. Here's wat i mean...

Your Scenario.... Pokemon WiiU game, only pokemon nfc toys. Pikachu+Charizard+Greninja+etc...  Though i 100% agree this would be a smash hit (just makes sense), but how about the next game(s) that comes out that uses amiibo? Can you use your Snorlax figurine? Your Mewtwo?

With the way they are going especially with SSB first, thats a game where multiple franchises are already in one, so for example after SSB releases.. We'll have Mario+Peach+Link+Samus! MK8 is confirmed with Amiibo so now your already bought Mario+Peach can be used for another game right there! Mario Party 10 (ewwww, ruined the franchise) has amiibo working with it as well.

I do support your idea, especially 2015 for 3DS would do wonders with pokemon. I just think a simply Nintendo allstar franchise is the smartest way to go to get the public's attention, but hey im just TBONE51 :P

I think you are ignoring that all Skylanders figures are compatible with 3 games (Spyro's Adenture, Giants, Swap Force), and the upcoming Trap Team.

Disney has also said that all current figures will be supported in Infinity 2.0.

In addition, except for Pokemon, the catalog of characters that Skylands and Disney have just squash everything else.

I like them but this is from someone who bought DBZ action figures when I first started college.  I still prize my Mr. Satan Hercule figure.

Well just checked, your right. My bad, but still the point i was trying to make is the figurines will work with many different franchises instead of being locked into one, so it doesn't squash everything else.

If somebody wanted to play new metroid and had already bought a Samus figurine for SSB for its features... Now lets say that same figurine has data that when playing a metroid game gave you access for a new suit or gave additional power ups to the player that would be awesome.

Or maybe a Zero Suit Samus Figurine which lets you play without the suit in th game at times? Possibilities are endless.

Some people here might only collect a few just because they like the Zelda franchise or the DK one. Bringing them to multiple franchises definitely seems to be a win/win

I like them very much. I am not sure I'll use it for games, but I'll buy them all. You got my money Nintendo, very smart.

I am curious to see what they do before I would call it a "win".  I also don't understand why they didn't do Pokemon.

Without Pokemon, they will have maybe 20 unique characters?  Disney has hundreds of characters from their movies (including Marvel / Pixar / Disney).  Skylanders just invents characters with each new game iteration.

Gotta collect them all!

I'll definitely be picking up Pikachu, Pit, Yoshi, Link and Samus.

1) Coz they look awesome
2) I'm a sucker for collectibles
3) The idea intrigues me
4) Plus any excuse to have some figures of my fave characters

I really don't know what to make of this. I just hope for Nintendo's sake it becomes the next Pokemon.
