I have been reading through a lot of threads and I keep seeing the criticizing of Nintendo's e3 as only appealing to Wii U owners, but I don't get where they draw that conclusion from. What games did they announce that just benefits those who already own a Wii U? I am pretty sure the promotion of Smash Bros is to get those still on the fence to come over. The announcement that Bayonetta 2 will have the original packed in as well is also a way to get people to not only buy the software, but potentially move hardware as well. Unveiling Zelda for the Wii U was most definitely news for new users as we know very clearly that there are a large amount of people waiting for the new Zelda game to get the Wii U.
Also, many non-Wii U owners were asking for a new IP and they gave one. It's a shooter, too. Although it may not be the kind of shooter most people were expecting, it has many of the same elements, except it's a much more chaotic and faster paced game than most shooters (if you watched the actual gameplay footage, you would know this is true). What about that game screams "only for current Wii U owners" I wonder?
While they were focusing mostly on just 1st party titles, the thing about it is that 1st party titles is mostly what Nintendo has. 3rd parties are, in general, just skipping the Wii U right now. So the best Nintendo can do is what they are already doing with Bayonetta and Hyrule Warriors.
