Update: Looks like its true that Nintendo #s are in fact sold, But vgc slightly overtracked with MK8 numbers
*Rumor~ Sales with Digital is a total of 404k (Famitsu)

Famitsu tracks download codes, not Digital sales. So it's >404k.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

The number for Japan is 325k. Using Famitsu is not the best option, use Media Create and stick with it.

No its not the best option. There is no best option cuz if there were neogaf+VGC (and others) would use both.

Because they are only sourcing "internal sales information" and not a tracking service. I know Nintendo uses some tracking to pull information for small European countries, but even then, they're still not entirely on their own.

Nintendo will have direct contact with the retailers so they will be able to find out exactly how many copies were sold through of their own products.

If this were the case, why would they be paying tracking services for their data? Data for competitors surely isn't the only reason.
