Nintendo's last E3 conference was a bit underwhelming, some nice announcements but people weren't exactly surprised by any of it. A new Mario, a new Smash Bros. Whoopee. What about this year? I doubt a new Zelda or Metroid would surprise people considering how long those franchises have been around. It just feels like Nintendo is getting predictable, especially with the WiiU doing poorly it's been giving them less of an incentive to take risks. 

Openworld/sandbox Pokémon game for Wii U, but that will not happen...

With Nintendo backed into a corner, what they need now more than ever is something new and surprising to inject new life into 3DS or WiiU.

Dont count them out just yet.

Poast surprises

Well, Nintendo directs certainly don't help. I don't think their conference will be particularly surprising, but I do think it will impress.

Last year we already knew they would announce a 3D Mario, Mario Kart and Smash Bros at E3, so I agree with those not being surprises. Tropical Freeze was the big surprise.

I hope they have an even bigger surprise this year. DK was good, but the Wii U needs something GREAT.

Wii Fit Trainer was a surprise to me and that was last years E3. I don't remember where they were announced (which directs specifically), but W101, Bayonetta 2 and X were all surprises. If they can surprise me year round then there is no innate reason they can't surprise me at E3 again.

A good new IP and an exciting 3rd party exclusive would do the trick. There was lots of surprise from Bayonetta 2. A really good looking Zelda might also be called a bit of a surprise. So would a hardware redesign. Nintendo surprises a lot really... with the Wii and Wii Sports, the DS, the 3DS, the recent top-down Zelda... or the above mentioned B2 or Hyrule Warriors. But they haven't done something really, really fun in a while.

they are more secretive about their new games this year than last all we know thats new is zelda so we might be hyped who knows

Yes i agree (aside from the whoopee doo part for SZB you Haterrrrrrrr :P) that E3 has been underwhelming past 2-3 years but remember this....

1. SSB for WiiU/3DS will be big at E3, im talking HUGE. A tourney This year and a professional one i might add.
2. NFC: This can prove to be quite huge
3. LoZ U nuff said.
4. Bayo2+Hyrule Warriors!
5. Finally huge info on these games: Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem /Yarn Yoshi (be alive still) / X
6. Pokemon OmegaRuby/Alpha Sapphire Gameplay plus some details
7. Unannounced 3DS Title that will have a heavy focus at E3
8. Maybe new SKU for WiiU or 3DS

9. Unnannounced Games! This is wat might need some explanation. Ok last year we had the huge Direct in Jan, which literally showed off X/Yarn Yoshi/Shin Megami x Fire Emblem/etc. This left E3 with only 1 unannounced game (DK) and 3 never before footage games. This year we didn't get any directs like that and we just had an ok one in Feb with 3 one game focus games in the past 2 months (SSB/MK8/Tomodachi). This year we might see anywhere between 2-5 unannounced games (does not include LoZ U)

10. Pokken Fighters!!! This can potentially be the next SSB!
