But the real question is can the Wii U's biggest game of this year (pending SSB release date) push it above the PS4 WW? Doing ok in one market is fine and all but it doesn't save the Wii U from the competition dominance in the other two more important regions.

Nintendo Land? lol no. SM3DW bombed hard in Japan, so no again. NSMBU is a launch and bundle game, so no again.

There is none. Wii U will get Kamen Raider and One Piece someday this year, but they aren't exclusives. So Wii U don't have any game that really appeal to japanese right now. Mario Kart will be the first big hit.

Who else thinks that Mario Kart 8 might actually give the Wii U enough of a hardware boost world wide to dethrone the PS4, even if just for one week?

Why? Most people would wait until the game comes out and buy them together.

Over half a million on a 1.5 million install base is hardly bombing hard.  SMG2 didn't even sell twice that on a 12 million install base.
