Overrated is usually used by fans of other consoles when describing games they don't like because they're popular. And even though they know in their heart the game is amazing they refuse to enjoy because they love their favorite console to much :)

"Overrated" is a relative term. It's purely based on opinion. Nothing is truly overrated. Some people just feel that if they don't like something that everyone else likes them it must not be that good.

Resident Evil 4 is over rated.

I mean it's all a bit subjective, but no. Just because something is overrated doesn't make it bad, just not necessarily as amazing as it's made out to be

Overrated means a game is thought better than it actually is. Naturally it depends on the game whether it's actually good or bad.

Unfortunately, people tend to confuse quality with personal taste. For instance, I can't stand Call of Duty, but I would never call that game overrated. Why? Well, because it's a very well made game series. The controls are spot on, the graphics are impressive, the combat is intense, the stories while goofy are entertaining popcorn flicks, and the multiplayer is some of the best on the market.

So why don't I like it then? Because I'm not a fan of military shooters. I think they are pointless, and I prefer the sci fi setting with my shooters. I like unique weapons in my shooters, I like a large variety of creatures to fight, I like all the possibilities that sci fi offers. It's my personal taste in the genre, and it just doesn't work out with CoD for me. But that doesn't mean that I can't see the appeal of CoD.

For a game to be truly overrated, it has to be received really well from the media, but turn into a broken mess when released to the consumers. For instance, if Aliens Colonial Marines had been released unchanged from what we got, but got nothing but 8's and 9's from the media all across the board, that would be the definition of an overrated game. But stuff like that rarely happens.

Even if you go and play Final Fantasy VII, or Ocarina of Time for the first time this year, even if you personally don't like them, you can't really call them overrated, because those games are 17 years old. You'd really have to be there back in 1997 in order to appreciate what those two games brought to gaming as a whole in order to understand why they are as beloved as they are. Like it or not, those two were game changers, and their effects are still felt through most games released today. But since we've grown so accustomed to their effects, they come off as trite these days.

Anyway, I'm just rambling at this point. But I hope this made sense.

They are usually good but I am a little disappointed after playing them because my expectations are high. That doesn't mean the game was bad.
