Overrated games can be just above mediocre and nothing more. That's why they are overrated. There good but not great.

GTA IV is super overrated.

But its still a good game. Especially when you start throwing PC mods into the mix.

This ^, but I have another theory that goes with it too.

I notice a lot of people that say a game is overrated seem to be playing, say FF VII, recently. It's obviously not going to impress someone that is used to playing games with advancements in controls and graphics to play a PS1 game and say it's overrated. PS1 games as well as N64 games have aged the worst of any generation.

They're normally pretty good or even great. It's just that the level of hype makes people look more closely for flaws or come in with higher expectations than normal. It hurts the game sometimes. Only a select few can live up to super-hype.

I think any game that is considered "over rated" is pretty good. It probably just dot sit well with that particular individuals tastes.

People Will call ANYTHING overrated.

Basically EVERY game that has a good score will be called overrated

Ive also noticed that all of Sony's games are apparantly overrated when coming from other fan groups.

Whenever i see ANYBODY attempt to claim that a game is overrated These days, It just makes me cringe because it's so FUCKING overused.

When somebody is saying that a game is overrated, they seem to always attempt to make the game sound BAD.

People even tried to claim that UNDERRATED games were now OVERRATED. People make me fucking sick.

 

Ive seen people claim that Earthboud, Final Fantasy 9, Chrono Trigger, etc are overrated among others.

 

According to the logic used these days, EVERY game that has a good score is overrated
