Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does Sony win every generation by default?

I think it's still possible for Nintendo to win a gen, but I don't think MS really knows how to stay in the game for the long run.I also don't think that SONY has won any of the past three gens by default. They worked really hard to stay on top.

They were very forward thinking with the Playstation, which ultimately sealed their dominance for gen 5.

They went to the DVD format and garnered a ridiculous amount of 3rd party support in gen 6.

They re-worked their message, spent a LOT of money, and flooded their user-base with exclusive after exclusive for gen 7 after being on the ropes for years. It also helped that Nintendo went too casual and MS kept robbing their customers for 8 years.

They made sure their message was clear and gamer-centric all the while making MS look like clueless fools for the start of Gen 8.

How is it by default?

They had to do alot to make the Playstation a success. Took risks pushing the CD format. Going against nintendo. Etc

And they improved on all of that to make the ps2 a success. Including pushing the DVD format

Even though they came in 2nd with ps3 they took big risks with Blu ray. And they beefed up their first party studios to churn a couple of game of the years

Ps4 they got more developer input then ever before to make it a breeze to work on. They improved everything about the controller. They brought indies to the forefront.

It's not like they just made a console and got lucky

This generation Sony is the winner.

That can easily be changed.

Next generation it can be other company.

The way Sony does business. Its only natural that they are percieved to be the winners or at least second place every generation. Its up to Nintendo or Microsoft to try and throw them off.

Ya pretty much. They have the geographical brand power and 3rd parties love them. Even when PS3 was last place it was 1st place "in PS fans hearts" lol.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

No. Even if Nintendo "fails" this generation I'm sure they'll bring some huge adjustments and cream both companies again.

The last time Nintendo won an E3 based on top quality exclusive games was 2010.

This man speaks the damn truth! Nintendo did a good job at wowing gamers with awesome announcements that year! Too bad the same cannot be said for the last 3 years!

In home consoles, I'd say yes.

In portables, I'd say "not a chance"

The Wii was the definition of a fluke. As long as the mobile market exists that market is permanently off limits.

Hardly, at this very time and all that has happend.

Seems to me you're strengthening his claim rather than countering it.
