Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does Sony win every generation by default?

It goes like this: since the first Playstation, N64 wins that battle, then PS2 wins that one, then XBox360, and now WiiU wins this gen so far, and will win when it's all said and done. I put everything together not just sales. , Gameplay, innovation, graphics, library, and sales all in t that order to know and figure out what is and was the best console of its generation. So look s like 1 out of 4 sorry Sony isn't the best by default.

Yep taking all things into consideration N64 won. Yep.

The console that sells the most wins. Simple as that. Don't twist it around because of your personal preference.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

All of those things are down to preferences and opinions. It may determine which was your own personal favorite, but the "winner" of a generation is the one that sells the most, always has been.

Not to mention, you are on a sales site :p

They don't have a strong presence in Japan anymore.

It hasn't even been out 6 months in Japan. The PS3 didn't have a particularly strong launch either. Let's wait and see what happens once some of the major 3rd party titles hit.

The PS4 honestly didn't have all that spectucular a launch lineup either.

Launch Lineup is irrelevant, the last launch title that was memorable for me was Super Mario 64. Consoles are sold on the entertainment value they provide.

When it comes to consoles, so far the PS3 has been the only exception to this rule. And even that will change in a couple of years time.

Um, how will it change when it sells only 40k a week? Wii won last gen in profits and consoles sold.

Even if PS3>Wii, i dont think it wins solely on the fact of wats important to the company themselves... $$$$$$$$. PS3 can sell 125mil, it still loses only cuz of how much Sony lost while Nintendo profited a shit ton.

I dont have numbers, would be cool to compare

Profit is partially irrelevant since it doesn't affect how well the platform will be supported, what It could have an effect on is the stablity of the company, but if that company isn't investing or reinvesting the money they make off of me into the system well, then that's bullshit. I always here about how much Money Nintendo is making, but I can't find where they spent it in online infastructure.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

It is not that easy to produce and sell stuff.
Would you have backed the kickstarter project for PSX :
"There are already two major players in that market! What does Sony got that the others don't? A DVD-player: LOL"
Would you have backed the kickstarter project for the Xbox:
"There are already two major players in that market, and a third gone bust! What does MS got that the others don't?"
Would you have backed the kickstarter project for the Wii:
"There are already two major players in that market! What does Wii got that the others don't, A waggle stick: LOL"

Why did not Philips make it in to the market, they have money and knowhow.
Why do not Valve have instant success in the market, they have knowhow.
Why does not Apple, Google, Samsung, IBM Intel, Facebook even try to get into the market, they have money and knowhow.
By the way how many would have backed a has-been coming back to his broken company who wanted to sell a portable music-player to a market that was full of similar music-players (Steve Jobs)

Do not try to make it out that success is predestined if you just do the RIGHT action.

Yes, Sony wins by default. 82M PS3s sold despite doing everything wrong last gen says it all.

They lost last gen though, so in a way its going to be a tie vs nintendo if you count HH :0

Sony Domination: PS1>N64  PS2>GCN  PS4>WiiU

Nintendonation:  Wii>PS3    DS>PSP   3DS>Vita

EVERYBODY IS A WINNER....... Oh Forgot MS :P (i kid, i kid!)

No one really counts handheld though.

There are also many advantages that Sony have.

Best part here is when sony top heads get a paycut the company is on the verge of bankrupcy and can't attend E3, but when Nintendo do it then it's good bussiness decision and frees money to invest. And also Nintendo directs always have a lot of zealots afterwards telling us how nintendo will reconquer the market but their spectations always fell short.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=9008994

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Probabally

PS1 - 100M         N64 - 33M

PS2 - 150M         Gamecube -22M        Xbox - 24M

PS3 - 82M+         Wii - 100M+                 Xbox 360 - 81M+

PS4 - 7.5M+        Wii U - 6.2M+               XB 1 = 4.5M+

Even with sony skrewing up horibly last gen. with PS3, they still made a fairly close 2nd place in the console race.

I think that this Gen, Sony will take the crown selling about 100M Ps4 units, and Microsoft will take 2nd with about 75M units, and Nintendo will be way behind with only around 25M Wii Us sold.

No, they just have the best library of games. Multiplatforms + a wide range of various exclusives, games for everyone.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m
