Actual reports say Killzone 2 costs $25 million. Those $50 million threads were a lie by bashers. Yet lies by bashers don't make Uncharted a low budget game, since the REAL numbers are $15-$25 million.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

This is the only real news that we've heard concerning KZ2's budget:

(from GameSpot)

While Black Book cost more than 16 million euros (approximately $21 million), Guerilla won't mention specific numbers for Killzone's budget. "Our budget tops [the film]," said Killzone director Arjan Brussee. "We're working on the biggest multimedia project in Dutch history."

And that was from November of 2006, so I'm sure it's gone up from there.

^ im sure it hasn't doubled (plus 8 mil) by then though.

WOW

black book is a dutch movie ?
didn't know ...
whatever, a good one !

I think all this means is that the future is even brighter.

Uncharted 2 will cost less, learn from past mistakes, and will sell far more thanks to a much larger fan base.

Even if it made a profit, it will be a small one. You have to view profits with the money invested to make that profit. A company's purpose is making money. If they spend 10 million, they don't want to make 1 million profit, because you might as well make that money by investing in shares of other companies with less risk.

This is called Return on invested capital.

Profit = revenue - cost. 75mil = revenue. You think there was more than 55mil in costs more than development????

Except development budjet=/= cost.

Development budget equals how much it cost to create the game as software.

It doesn't cost how much it cost to make copies of the game nor does it cost advertising, nor does it cost distribution or what you have to pay the stores or what you have to pay sony.

I'm not sure where you got 75 million in revenue for it.

1.25 million copies sold * sixty bucks a copy = 75 million in revenue

Whatever way you slice it, Uncharted is shaping up to be at least a 1.5 million seller, and could go up to 2.0 million units sold.  The game has obviously showed some type of profit, or reason to believe it will be profitable, as Uncharted 2 will be in our PlayStation 3s this year.
