Forums - Nintendo - I do not think Mario Kart 8 is going to boost sales much

I was at the Gamestop Mario Kart 8 demo showing this weekend.

The line was three 4 year old Asian kids who snuck in somehow. No idea where their parents were. After they left, I played to my hearts content.

Visuals were nothing amazing. I played the Airport level and the water level. I got nothing from the anti-gravity effect. If I was able to see the rest of the track upside down then it would have been interesting. But when you go upside down, all you see is the track you are on.

Speed was alright, but I felt it could have been a lot faster. F-Zero like speed is what I am thinking about. Everything else was there.

I give my demo play a 7/10.

But the point of this is that there was no line. Gamestop employees did not even act like it existed. Makes me feel like it is to late. Nintendo waited too long to bring out it's big guns. Even Einsem , a member on this site, said that he was able to play over and over again. But at the Pikmin 3 demo and other E3 like demo events it was hard to get even a second play let alone three or four.

What do you all think? Too late to even matter? Only current owners will buy the game and hardly any new games will take the leap?

I have a picture of the non-line, but my phone is not sending it. Will work on it and get it sent to my email hopefully.

People will buy it and check amazon in europe sales are up so is japan sales i gurantee it will give it a huge boost as for not looking great your on crack

People from our generation already (at least who likes Mario) a WiiU. The younger people aren't interested in Mario games, they are playing Flappy Bird, Farmville, Clash of Clans and Candy Crush and so go on. I'm afraid people are getting dissapointed on the hardware boost. Software wise, it will be a success.

I think the $330 price for the bundle kinda puts a damper on impulse buy sales unfortunately ... even if it does come with two games (effectively), that's starting to inch towards PS4/XB1 in price and I think that'll scare people away and keep parents away too.

I suspect it will be successful at getting Nintendo fans who have been hold outs on the Wii U to finally start coming off the fence though.

LOL at your sign xD 145K in Japan by they way, not globally.

Now, I think I agree with you spurgeonryan, the game looks cool and all but there's something wrong with the tracks... they feel boring, I don't know. And not many people aside from traditional players seem to be talking about it either. I highly doubt the game will boost the Wii U like many people claim. 100K hardware units sold globally during the first week (even if the console has that luck) and then back to the 40-50K in the second week.

Must not have played Mario Kart 64 then! I don't know what you're feeling, but I assure you Mario Kart 8's tracks are far from boring!

I don't know, they don't look like Double Dash and Mario Kart DS tracks. Now that you mention Mario Kart 64, I actually love many of its levels, like the Wario Stadium or whatever, Donkey Kong Jungle, the freeway... Mario Kart 8 tracks don't look like that, they are just bland tracks divided in three parts.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Just like Titanfall it will provide a nice boost for a few weeks, not much beyond that. People are really overestimating the impact one game can have on any system.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

It will give a big boost, but a short boost, not increase the sales on a regular basis.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

I hope that Mario Kart 8 won't disappoint as much as Titanfall. It got really boring after around 2 weeks.

What do you think of other Mario Kart titles? Anti-gravity changes the gameplay, the camera doesn't change much.

So, you think that The Amazig Spider Man 2 on Wii U looks better than Mario Kart 8? I quote you from Miiverse: "Visuals are amazing, fun open world game!"
I only saw some videos of ASM2 and it really didn't look good.

I called it months ago, FW worlwide sales will be no more than 200k.
