Ok to sum up; you were underwhelmed by MK8 and that somehow equals that the game won't help move Wii Us, sorry not seeing the connection.

Now, I think I agree with you spurgeonryan, the game looks cool and all but there's something wrong with the tracks... they feel boring, I don't know. And not many people aside from traditional players seem to be talking about it either. I highly doubt the game will boost the Wii U like many people claim. 100K hardware units sold globally during the first week (even if the console has that luck) and then back to the 40-50K in the second week. |
Must not have played Mario Kart 64 then! I don't know what you're feeling, but I assure you Mario Kart 8's tracks are far from boring!
On the first week Pikmin 3 in the U.S., the Wii U sold about 6,000 more units than the week before. On the first week Pikmin 3 in EU, the Wii U sold about 1,000 more units than the week before. On the first week Pikmin 3 in Japan, the Wii U sold about 14,000 more units than the week before. That's a combined 21,000 unit boost from Pikmin 3 WW. The Wii U sold 22,000 WW the week before, so if it launched WW I'd guess the Wii U would have sold 43,000 that week. Pikmin's US preorders were 85,633 the week before it launched.
By comparison, U.S. preorders for Mario Kart are currently at 175,476 with three weeks to go. Mario Kart 8 is launching almost simultaneously, as opposed to Pikmin 3's scattered release. Mario Kart 8 will probably have at least 240,000 preorders in the U.S. during it's final week. The Wii U is currently selling about 30,000 units.
240,000. vs. 86,000
That's three times as many preorders.
Let's be brash and guess that the Wii U sell three times as many units opening, even though consoles sell better in the spring, Mario Kart is an exponentially more mainstream and popular franchise than Pikmin, and there may be more or less days to account for.
63,000 unit bonus first week world wide. So around 93,000 units sold the first week if you add that to what the Wii U is currently selling. That's a gargantuan boost. That would put it in third place, behind the PS3 and 3DS if everything else stayed the same. (And it will, because most anyone who was buying systems for Watch_Dogs did so last year before the delay)
So yeah, Mario Kart 8 will boost Wii U sales a lot. Will it start the momentum that will "save the Wii U?" Lol, that all depends on what Nintendo shows at E3, and if they can release a steady stream of big Wii U games from then until the Wii U takes off. My guess? Nope.
It'll boost the hardware sales but it wont "save it".
It will help for sure, it can't make the situation any worse and the hardware bundle is a decent one, but yeah I think some Nintendo loyalists are overstating its impact. I do expect a good noticeable bump for the first 2-3 weeks after launch, but then I suspect Wii U sales will sink back to a better but still poor baseline as we get into the second half of July.
The issue really isn't the initial boost ... I'm sure there will be a very nice bump for the Wii U, especially as its current baseline is so low, the question is how long that honeymoon period lasts before reality sets back in.
First you people this game has the save the wii u now you people say it won't like I had thank your opinion don't matter in the world just vgchartz
I wasn't that impressed either after playing it in person. I watched the review on GameTrailers and was also disappointed that once again Battle Mode, a long time staple of the MK series, has been completely FUBAR'd. How the hell do you not have specially designed battle arenas but instead force players to race around normal tracks while being TIMED??
Somebody really needs to teach Nintendo the meaning of the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
How many people have already said the visuals look great and the environments feel vibrant, stopped listening after the first couple of lines.

That would be me as well. I can't take this seriously after his brush-off of the visuals so quickly.
