Glad Crytek's "Sean Tracy" cleared it up. People was running around thinking the PS4 had enough ram for years to come. Lol
Crytek is one of the most obnoxious developers out there in my opinion, if they stopped complaining about console power once in a while and instead concentrated on making their games better, then maybe Ryse would've actually been a good game.
One of the worst developers out there, imo of course. Good for making tech demo kind of games that are bundled with console and new video card launches.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/04/13/crytek-ceo-claims-graphics-are-60-of-the-game/ Maybe they'll raise that 60 to 90 percent now.
If your games are mediocre then who cares if they think 8GB isn't enough.
Its not like the hardware is holding crytek back from doing anything innovative gameplay wise, hell I don't think the PS2 would.

I not sure, didn't the X360 have eDRAM.
zero129 said:Crytek: 8GB RAM Can Be Easily Filled Up, Will Surely Be Limiting Factor on PS4/Xbox OneHowever, Sean Tracy says that it’s not all about the raw power of the consoles. While the PS4 and Xbox One wowed developers and consumers alike with their copious amounts of RAM – the PS4 more so since it sports 8 GB GDDR5 RAM in a unified architecture – it’s not as though it’ll be difficult to fill up. In fact, that time may come sooner than later according to Crytek’s US Engine Business Development Manager Sean Tracy. We recently interviewed Havok’s head of product management Andrew Bowell about the 8 GB of RAM in both consoles and had been informed that artists will have no trouble occupying it all. Does Tracy also believe there will be a shortage of RAM in this generation as well? “I would have to agree with the viewpoint that 8 gigs can easily be filled up, but also keep in mind that developers don’t necessarily even have access to all 8 gigs of it. For example the Xbox One retains some of the RAM for OS purposes. Since technology, as Ray Kurweil states, progresses exponentially, we will soon find that the computational requirements of games will quickly hit the ceiling of a few gigs of ram. We already had to manage quite intensely our memory usage throughout Ryse and this will be one of the limiting factors surely in this generation. “As hardware gets stronger the complexity of scenes can be increased and the dynamism within them. However, with that said it’s not the raw power alone that will allow for photo-realistic graphics but technology that intelligently scales and utilizes all that the hardware has to offer.” So again, it will come down to who best optimizes their games for the hardware that both the PS4 and Xbox One offer. It may be a few years till developers are confidently using all the power a system has to provide but it remains to be seen how they’ll go about achieving the same. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below. I dont know what they are doing but ive not seen one game that even needs 4GB of ram on a PC (Yes some do say it on the box but if u watch the task manager not many games go above 2GB of ram usage even skyrim with all mods on from what i remember doesnt even go above 4GB and that looks better then anything on nextgen :-/ . |
You have to remember that the system memory is combined with gpu memory. Rome II takes up ~2.4 GB on my gpu, then a further ~2 GB on my system memory = ~4.4 GB.....and that is not really a next gen game. However the limiting factor will be the core componets eg cpu and gpu. There is no need to fill * GB of memory when the gpus are pretty weak. You'll just have a very shoddy performing game.
If not for the PC crowd that loves to run their games as if they were benchmarks... no one would even be talking about crytek today. How about they make a decent game for once instead of going around contradicting themselves. All they do is nag and whine aboujt one limitation or the other where as there are devs that have accomplished so much more than them with access to much less power. (naughty dog)
Silly crytek.
