Forums - Nintendo - Tecmo Koei Wants to sell 1 Million Copies of Hyrule Warriors

You are so mean, Kresnik. You imply that Nintendo fans will buy anything as long as a popular brand is slapped onto it, but there's so much proof out there that that can't save an unappealing game. And the only thing that Hyrule Warriors has going for it is the Zelda coat. It's not a graphical showcase, it doesn't have varied gameplay, it's just Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda look. I'd say there's a bigger chance that the game will be a complete bomb than it reaching 1m, but I expect it to finish at around half a million.

I don't think that saying x zelda fans + y musou fans + z people with a WiiU who would try out this game is saying that Nintendo fans will buy anything as long has a popular brand slapped on it.   It's just saying that that x + y + z > 1 million over the course of WiiU's life.

The popular brand will surely help, though.  Refer to thead where it got announced to see any number of "I've never played a Warriors game/I have no interested in Warriors titles but I will try this out because it is a Zelda title" posts.

I remember that thread, but don't forget that tbone brings so much enthusiasm to these forums that he can appear to be twenty different people.

Jokes aside, internet hype rarely equates real world interest. The brand will help, yes. But it's not going to make a Warriors game skyrocket in sales. Did the best-selling Warriors game on a Nintendo system surpass 0.5m? How many have been released on Nintendo systems anyway?

Youuuuuuu!!!! >_<

Anyway i enjoyed one piece dynasty games so i might enjoy this as well. How much did one piece do? i think the first did almost 1mil WW so there's that.

420k, the majority in Japan.

Nintendo consoles were the home of Samurai Warriors games for a while (2 on Wii; 2 on 3DS).  Though they did migrate back to Sony consoles eventually because, indeed, that's where the fanbase is.

And yes, you're right, forum hype =/= real world sales.  But if people on the forums who know this is not a proper Zelda game are interested in buying it...

Now I want to know how much they expect from Fatal Frame U...

100k if they're optimistic.

If I had a Wii U i'd buy it.

That said, i'd be kind of shocked if it sold more then half that.

Dynasty Warriors games sell more on the story then the gameplay, which is why their numbers keep dropping for the main line franchise, they can only tell the same story so many times.

Zelda... is sort of the opposite it sells on it's gameplay, and not the story.

Take the gameplay of a game that doesn't sell on gameplay.

And the story of a game that doesn't sell on story... and i feel like there is a problem brewing.

If the Zelda Team made a game about Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei fighting Cao Cao it'd probably sell better.

For the story?! lolwut

I buy Dynasty Warriors games for the gameplay.

The sales are dropping because the gameplay hardly improves from one game to the other. It's basically been the same since Dynasty Warriors 2.

Sounds possible, why not.

Meh, maybe it does due to the name, but then again it could just be like that target-practice Zelda game...

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Seriously.  If you listen/read most people talking about the game it's mostly about the cartoon style ways they portray the ROTK characters.

eh idk, on one hand you have a Dynasty Warriors kind of game which is still quite unpopular in the West and has even become unimportant in Japan,
but then you have the Zelda license thrown into the mix, which will surely sell more than a normal DW game would on WiiU. But the gameplay will probably still stay the same, which is probably a main reason why the franchise (DW) has been nosediving for a while.

Really hard to say if it's going to hit a million. With bundles (like WW HD was through the holidays) it's certainly possible though.
