I never imagined Nintendo will just sit and wait for the end of the world. I mean, even with the GC doing better they reacted faster and better (despite the lack of sales).

I was expecting them to be more aggressive but so far they have been disappointing. I hope the best for this E3.

The Gamecube was making profits fot Nintendo despite the low price it had, unlike the Wii U which until recently, was making losses.

Wii U and XBOne have both had some initial issues.  Wii U launched great but quickly sales went in the pooper, and One has taken a significant back seat to PS4 since launch and is in danger of losing many 360 buyers to Playstation.  Here are some of the problems:

Wii U:

-Dropping third party support.

-Terrible sales rate.

-Delays of 1st party software.

-Unoriginal software.

-Overall software droughts.

-Lack of mainstream attention.

-Lack of interest in unique features (Gamepad, TV, etc)

-Some expected features missing (trophies, etc)

XBOne:

-High cost.

-A movement of COD mainstream players to PS4.

-Unwanted Kinnect.

-Unliked ant-piracy measures.

-No must-have software.

-Lesser versions of multiplatform games.

-Image of not being the "it" item for mainstream consumers in North America in comparisson to PS4.

-Declining marketshare vs. PS360 gen and inventory piling up on shelves.

Significant problems, for sure.  But as we saw with both XB360 and PS3 last gen, consumers have a short memory and a product can be turned around with swift action.  RROD, the $600 PS3... these things can be overcome.  An introduction of something fresh like Kinnect can even combat the advantages of a craze like the Wii, so all is not lost for these two factions.

However, action has to be taken... or does it?  Is it better to stay the course?  Through a year and a half, Nintendo has essentially gone with the status quo, releasing known franchises and implementing a minor price drop and sutble updates to the Wii U OS.  MS has gone into panic mode, dropping Kinnect, changing policies, securing 3rd party exclusives and dropping the base price.  Which course is better?  Is there other things they should be doing?  Things they shouldn't?  Will the strategies work to improve fortunes?

Sunset Overdrive. Titanfall. Killer Instinct. Halo 5: Gardians. Wut?

I think Nintendo is at a point where they don't really have much wiggle room. They could throw more money into Wii U marketing but that's probably the opposite of where they'll go. Right now, I think they're looking at an exit strategy more than a battle plan.

Where Nintendo really should be judged is in how they react to the Wii U in terms of the NEXT generation. They cannot continue down the same course. They have a hell of a lot of work that needs to be done. If they begin the next gen as unprepared as they were this gen, then wholesale changes need to be made in management. Letting the Wii U ride while they address the future might actually be the smartest course.

you for real? Nintendo has done prety much nothing.

Yet they're somehow winning the poll!

which is suspect since most of the responses have been pro MS. So that tells me either there are people voting twice or there are more Ninty fans than MS fans on this site.

Lot of lurkers here on this site to have Nintendo winning this much, yet the majority of comments here have MS as the reactor. hmmm.

Dropping the gamepad would kill the Wii U altogether.

On topic: Microsoft is doing way better.

I find it hard to believe that a $220-$250 Wii U SKU would cause it sell worse than it is now. You'd just have a very small minority of people crying about it on message boards, no one else would care.

Nintendo's actions since Wii U launch:

- E3 2012, let's end the dissapointing press conference with something even more dissapointing: Nintendo Land and fireworks.
- Launch NSMBU which looks similar to NSMBWii, 3 months after NSMB2 on 3DS.
- Droughts
- Delay launch window games, like the niche TW101,the Wii upport Pikmin 3 and the Wii Fit HD port
- Even more droughts
- Zero marketing
- Nintendo direct instead of a press conference
- Terrible trailer for 3D World, a mixture of 2D-3D Mario games that looks like a direct sequel to 3D Land
- Only one surprise (letdown for some of us) at the ND: Retro working on another 2D DK game.
- Droughts
- Once again, zero marketing
- Delays. DK goes to next year to fill gaps
- Finally they market the thing, terrible effort
- Lazy Sports HD only digital. More droughts
- Again, not press conference (let's see hoe the digital event works, ND was a disaster)

I hope Digital Event take back my faith on them.
