Nintendo's really had three crappy E3's in a row now ...

- Wii U unveiling in 2011 that they apologized for afterwards
- Nintendo Land unveiling with the fireworks thing (underwhelming) in 2012
- 2013 Nintendo Direct with underwhelming debut trailers for Mario 3D World and DKC: TF.

I get the feeling they will do a better job this year though.

When you have a plan, only a few times it pays of so quickly (Ex: PS4). The normal case scenario, is that each plan takes time to be achieved, it´s a process.
Every new gen is a new process, a new plan.
Nintendo is sticking to it´s plan. Microsoft is changing it every 5 or 6 months (We will have DRM... no we won´t / Kinect is the future... no it´s not).

Well atm Microsoft is still in the game with plenty of third party support so new games will appear more frequent while Nintendo has severe gaming droughts between each retail release. Microsoft can still take the NA market and compete with the PS4 or least put in good numbers this generation if they play their cards right but the Wii U atm seems to be on course to be Nintendo's lowest selling console ever (Virtual Boy excluded)

I'd say atm Microsoft is handling the pressure better because they actually seem to be trying to do things to improve sales while Nintendo is just relying on single game releases to improve sales instead of talking to third party studios and advertising their console more often.

Microsoft seem a lot more interested in correcting their mistakes than Nintendo.

They way Nintendo reacted, would be about the same as Microsoft saying they are on track to outsell the PS4 by the end of the year globally.

I love the comments here being "pro-MS". Remember their previous CEO allowed that "deal with it" d-bag to speak on behalf of the company. The problem I have here is people aren't looking at the whole picture.

MS, in 6 months, did a 180 on their policies again. 399 Xbox One without Kinect, reversing 7 year old policies. They are in desperation mode trying to earn back consumers, not gamers, consumers. The problem is they relied way too much on the dude-bro community, and since they migrated to the PS4 they don't have that, which leaves them with loyalist.

Nintendo has weathered the storm before and has been opening up to users and developers. They have enough expertise to capitalize on this

Microsoft is actually seeing why their console isn't selling as well as the PS4 so they're changing it. Nintendo is doing nothing...

So Ninty's plan has been failing and its a good thing to stick to it? sounds about right.

I think too many people here are too short-sighted. A lot of you guys can't see that a LOT more goes into these things than what you see upfront. Assuming Nintendo has done nothing to try and do SOMETHING about the Wii U is incorrect. They have done a good few things, but most of you guys pass it off as it's only natural for them to do so. However, that's not necessarily the case. The way Nintendo did it was in fact in retaliation to the poor sales.

I honestly don't care to join much into the sales debate of hardware anymore because of the high amount of lack of foresight many have. Just because someone predicts correctly or incorrectly the approximate sales of a hardware beforehand also is in no way an indicator you know what's going on. A lot of that attitude is pretty prevalent here, and I find it a little annoying.

I personally don't think the decisions made by either side were stupid. The market is not that easy to read. For the most part, the proclamations that certain ideas were bad are done so in hindsight (and confirmation bias).
