I consider Qualcomm to be better.

Also, Apple phones are weaker, but they don't run on bloated software like TouchWiz and Samsung phones feel cheap compared to Apple's glass and metal designs. They run smoother as well.

I'm a Android fan all the way and I don't like Apple's ecosystem, but both the HTC One M8 and the Sony Xperia Z2 outclass the S5. Samsung has gotten lazy, all they do now is butt heads with Apple over patents while the competition races ahead of them.

I'm pretty sure that qualcomm doesn't do semiconductor manufacturing ... Like Intel in the processor space, samsung is like the Intel of the mobile space.

Nonetheless Apple phones are the ones innovating less than samsung ... TouchWiz isn't as bad as you say it is because it seems pretty responsive most of the time from what I've experienced.

It's not like you even NEED to use touchwiz, since there is a mind-boggling choice of launchers which make it their bitch.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm running a Sim-free, rooted Samsung Galaxy SII with NeatROM (4.1.2 Jellybean TouchWiz) with the hardware buttons hacked to fuck for media functions, and I am running Go Launcher. Titanum Backup got rid of all the stuff I didn't need. If I ever need another phone, it'll be because this one got destroyed.

ON TOPIC: I sold a Sony Xperia L that I got free with my Orange Phone Fund as part-payment for it.

Touchwiz is still a memory hog, regardless of which launcher you use.

I agree though, rooting does fix most of the issues.

AMD isn't a direct competitor to Intel the way Samsung can be.

Also, I was referring to your comment about Samsung buying AMD out for their graphics. They would only do such a thing if they had to compete in the graphical department.

Samsung sells fridges, ovens, microwaves, TVs, computers, cameras, Chromebooks, tanks, and a lot more. And guess what? They're not the best in any of those categories.

You do realize that it is illegal to have a monopoly, right ?

Considering how cheap AMD is I'm pretty sure samsung can easily write a check to buy them and they could compete in the graphics market with Nvidia but it would be mostly to their own benefit as samsung doesn't have to license Qualcomm's technology anymore in their designs. Another good thing is that now AMD's graphics division would also have a leg up on Nvidia as samsung has the superior chip manufacturing technology to support them too.

You don't have to be the best in all of those. All samsung needs to be is good enough to have a sizable market share and they are the best in the mobile space as evidenced by having the most market share in phones I think.

Samsung is essentially the new Sony.

Please elucidate

In the 80's, 90's and early 00's in the west, Sony was the symbol of quality for Electronics. Samsung took over 00's and 10's. Problem with Sony is that the competition from asia expanded at better prices.

I dunno man, it works as a simplification, but bear in mind that Sony has always been more entertainment and lifestyle-focused, whereas I doubt there are many people who know that Samsung make "white goods" such as washing machines, fridges and microwaves; plant machinery like mobile cranes, bulldozers and forklifts; they've even dabbled in being a motor company (in collaboration with Renault-Nissan). They also produce parts for other manufacturers such as PCB components, LCD and OLED panels, ARM processors, and RAM sticks. Oh, and they have a secret history as a hardware licencee for SEGA back in the days.

By comparison, Sony appears to have missed several opportunities which others have capitalised on as a result of supreme confidence in their own vision, and there are far too many examples of this to assume that Samsung is as stupid as they have been. There are a couple of threads here on the 'chartz which have linked to the resurgence of the likes of Panasonic and Toshiba as suppliers of components to other companies - I wonder if Sony has anything in their portfolio which would allow them to take a similar route?

Sony beats their competition to the punch, but seems to overprice their goods. Every time you hear a media complaint its about slashing prices. Sony needs to start dropping the Vaio and soon. Its a quality laptop but for the prices they ask for you could get a different brand with more under the hood.

I know it's illegal to have a monopoly, that's why I said companies can't just buy up their competition.

AMD wouldn't sell out to Samsung simply because they are doing great all on their own. It really isn't hard to outsource the manufacturing process.

And AMD would not come cheap, and the government will almost certainly step in to break such a deal up.

TouchWiz doesn't show up in my running processes. Maybe that's because it's a mere launcher, and I am already using another launcher instead of it.

I'm pretty sure, by now, I could delete the APK for TouchWiz and this phone would still work the same.

EDIT: Continued via wall posts. Thread getting off-track.

For the last time, AMD ISN'T competing with samsung ...

I highly doubt that AMD is doing anything but good. They just posted a loss for their recent fiscal results ... It would be beneficial for AMD to be backed by samsung as the latter isn't interested in being a foundry customer for them.

AMD is cheap. Their only worth 3 billion dollars for christs sake ...

TouchWiz is not a launcher. It is a complete reskin of Android, and that is why it dosen't show up in your processes. It dosen't run off an apk either, so no, that wouldn't work. TouchWiz IS Android, just Samsung's version of it.

I know they aren't competing, but you still mention that Samsung should buy them, which would mean that Samsung wants to enter the graphics field. And if Samsung ever decided to enter the graphics field (as in your scenario), they would either compete with AMD or buy them out.

AMD's net worth is 4 billion dollars, not three. If someone wanted to buy AMD, they wouldn't get it for 4 billion dollars. They would have to pay a lot more. AMD could easily sell for as high as 10 billion dollars. The reason is that AMD is in a very strategic position right now. The consoles are all dependent on AMD for their hardware, and AMD has a duopoly on the graphics market with Nvidea. Remember how Facebook bought WhatsApp for 19 billion dollars, and Oculus Rift for 6 billion? AMD is much more essential and in a better position than either of those.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

I swear someone makes this thread everytime we get Sony's financial results.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

As I answered before in another thread, I'd also like to see Samsung to take over the PS-division, if it would go that way in the future. I mean, anything can happen, even though I don't believe for a second that Sony would drop the PS-brand.

If not Samsung I would love to see a Chinese company acquire it. I do however feel a bit skeptical about that, because of the lack of gaming(especially console) business we have. But a company like Hasee(神舟) which mainly focus on making gaming PC/laptops surely know how to make great hardware. They make really great gaming computers and have a long history of making graphics cards and what not. But, they could never afford it. They are big but the PS-brand is just too big for them.

If Hasee would co-operate and team up with another company it could work. Perhaps Baidu would be interested in this market? Hasee can make the hardware and Baidu has the cash to provide.

If not Samsung or a "Chinese project", Google or Apple would more than likely see an opportunity here.

And someone else mentioned Valve before. In my opinion that would be really sweet, if they dropped the Steam Machine and really made their own console. I would buy it for sure, being Valve+PS or just Valve.
