I dunno man, it works as a simplification, but bear in mind that Sony has always been more entertainment and lifestyle-focused, whereas I doubt there are many people who know that Samsung make "white goods" such as washing machines, fridges and microwaves; plant machinery like mobile cranes, bulldozers and forklifts; they've even dabbled in being a motor company (in collaboration with Renault-Nissan). They also produce parts for other manufacturers such as PCB components, LCD and OLED panels, ARM processors, and RAM sticks. Oh, and they have a secret history as a hardware licencee for SEGA back in the days. By comparison, Sony appears to have missed several opportunities which others have capitalised on as a result of supreme confidence in their own vision, and there are far too many examples of this to assume that Samsung is as stupid as they have been. There are a couple of threads here on the 'chartz which have linked to the resurgence of the likes of Panasonic and Toshiba as suppliers of components to other companies - I wonder if Sony has anything in their portfolio which would allow them to take a similar route? |
Sony beats their competition to the punch, but seems to overprice their goods. Every time you hear a media complaint its about slashing prices. Sony needs to start dropping the Vaio and soon. Its a quality laptop but for the prices they ask for you could get a different brand with more under the hood.
