Easily Microsoft! The GamePad is great for watching porn and all, but there aren't many games that take advantage of it!

The Wii U DID have a price cut. The deluxe model was cut by $50 down to $299.

I think Nintendo is making the right decision by sticking to their guns. The Wii U is defined by the gamepad.

I feel that too many people place far too much emphasis on price, when consumers largely favor products that they perceive to have the highest value for their investment. When consumers look at consoles, we consider price, performance, features, software library, and so on, before making a choice.

While a Kinect-less Xbox One at $399 will most likely boost sales, it's still anyone's guess at this point whether consumers will choose it over a PS4 at the same price in the long run (differences in performance, software libraries, and so on, will affect consumers' perceptions). Similarly, even if Nintendo got rid of the gamepad and sold the Wii U at a lower price, we still can't be sure that it would dramatically increase market share, because perceived value is a product of several different factors, with only price being one of them.

Both are making the right choice given their respective situations.

Nintendo, because the Wii U was built around the Gamepad. Removing it to lower the price of the console won't help the image of the system. In fact, it's more likely that such a move would hurt Nintendo's reputation as a whole. Additionally, sales of the 2DS already show that removing a central piece of the hardware isn't going to change things for the better.

Microsoft, because Kinect is worthless and nobody is going to miss it, and in turn they can drop the price of their console without taking a significant hit in their financials.

It's likely going to increase their financials. I'm betting that without it, Xbox One is actually more profitable hardware.

Both might be making the right choice, honestly. Assuming Nintendo comes through on this promise of games that make good use of the Gamepad, then between that and the NFC toys, the NFC money card payments, and all that, the gamepad will help them in the long run. Kinect sorta gave Xbox some uniqueness, but it didn't have as many money making opportunities, and had a strong identity issue with Xbox, being seen as a forced add on, while the Gamepad is at least seen as part of the Wii U more than the Kinect part of Xbox. It's looked at as the primary controller, or at least equally primary to the other options. Kinect had the disadvantage that it was originally an add on so it'll always be seen that way. Nintendo established in consumer's minds with Wii the idea that their consoles have unique controllers that are part of what makes it what it is. If Wii U wasn't already being confused as an add on, and Nintendo had done better marketing from the beginning, no one would be talking about getting rid of the Gamepad. Basically, the Gamepad is seen as a controller (though one of several viable ones), while Kinect is seen as an unnecessary add on. Unlike the XBO with Kinect, Wii U's problems run much deeper than the Gamepad being forced, so Nintendo can still go either way with including the Gamepad or not, while Microsoft undoubtably will hugely benefit from their decision, and likely would never have been able to muster any benefit from doing otherwise.

Holy crap who is voting for Nintendo? What decision did Nintendo make to improve the situation of the Wii U??????
This is ridicilous.

Nintendo have been stubborn which was the right thing to do. The hardware is not making a loss anymore, and Wii U loses none of its features. Now they can concentrate on making compelling software to boost system sales, the gamer wins by having great games and the added bonus of the superb gamepad. More importantly, Nintendo are making profits as well, win win in my eyes.

Nintendo isnt making a profit, they just lost more than 200 million dollars. Who says WiiU is profitable? Its their main reason they keep losing money.
