I feel that too many people place far too much emphasis on price, when consumers largely favor products that they perceive to have the highest value for their investment. When consumers look at consoles, we consider price, performance, features, software library, and so on, before making a choice.

While a Kinect-less Xbox One at $399 will most likely boost sales, it's still anyone's guess at this point whether consumers will choose it over a PS4 at the same price in the long run (differences in performance, software libraries, and so on, will affect consumers' perceptions). Similarly, even if Nintendo got rid of the gamepad and sold the Wii U at a lower price, we still can't be sure that it would dramatically increase market share, because perceived value is a product of several different factors, with only price being one of them.
